Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 29/04/2025Imagine thinking that holding to a conviction that God's will to save, and His justice are not only compatible but one and the same such that He will punish evil and save all to satisfy it, is besmirching His Most High Name. ⚓ Couldn't be me. 021
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 29/04/2025⚓ This seems to go nicely with my results as a Prayerbook or "Seersucker" Low Churchman. 050

Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 05/01/2025I don't believe St Paul's teachings can contradict Jesus' because St Paul wrote what was inspired by the Spirit of Christ. But this is getting us deeper into a possible disagreement on the nature of revelation and inspiration. 100
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 05/01/2025I'm not sure, in the spirit of Divine Simplicity, that these things are or can be seperate. But that's getting into doctrine of God weeds that were not ultimately my point. 100
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 05/01/2025However, scripture teaches that God uses creation, including creatures, as the instruments of his vengeance. 100
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 05/01/2025So my belief that the Bible teaches that it is just to execute a murder necessitates that innocent people also get executed? That's absurd. 100
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 05/01/2025The death penalty has never required a just society, as there has never been a just society. The hypothetical is about the properness of executing a murderer, not how well we go about convictions. I acknowledged the flawed nature of our system. 100
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 05/01/2025No it's not. Also antiquity did have prisons. Lots of prisons. St Paul was in them quite often. 100
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 05/01/2025Killing is not objectively, universally, always, a sin. Murder is. 100
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 05/01/2025Killing is not an objective evil. Murder is. Your contextualizing is doing a lot of heavy lifting. 100
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 04/01/2025Sure, feel free. I don't hate DBH for what it's worth. I just think he's an asshole lol. I thank is book That All Shall Be Saved for opening me up to Reformed theology. It was a great treatise on the nature of the Will and choice. 000
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 04/01/2025To reiterate, I acknowledged the flawed system and specified the issue as *per se*. The death penalty as it is capable of being implemented right now, in America, may be incapable of proper use but Capital punishment isn't, in essence, evil. 110
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 04/01/2025No civilization has ever had a perfectly just system and yet the author of Genesis and Paul both felt quite comfortable teaching under the inspiration of the Spirit that execution was acceptable. And the justification was exactly that one who kills an Image Bearer has committed so grievous a sin. 100
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 04/01/2025And in Romans 13:4, Paul speaks quite frankly that the Magistrate is the servant of God who wields the sword as an avenger. This is executioner, capital punishment language. Does this mean the State system for it is not flawed? No. But it, of itself, isn't evil. 300
Jeremy ⚓ @the-thin-place.bsky.social · 04/01/2025⚓ Unpopular opinion in my Church but I am very convinced that capital punishment aka the death penalty is not immoral or unethical per se. The argument against it based on the Imago Dei is the exact opposite of what scripture says in Genesis 9:6. 431
