This fall I’m going to have to ween myself off meta ... It’s like a Korben Dallas cigarette.

Korben Dallas from the fifth element film smoking a cigarette that is mostly filter.

A pleasing distraction from all the craziness in the world at the moment. The ‘Super Happy Magic Forest’ team at the Broadcast Awards. We were nominated -hurrah- but sadly didn’t win this time round.

I’m thinking of starting a group called ‘Antisocial media’ where people chat face to face and hang out, maybe talking about subjects they don’t agree on but still managing to be civil.

I forget to post on here. Part of the weening off social media, by replacing the time I usually doom scroll with reading or walking outside.. also making more art. It has to be said, I do feel calmer for it. Although the shock of then reengaging with the crazy world is surprising.

Here a little piece I made yesterday. The smallest so far. I included a tiny bit of an old disintegrated newspaper .. can you read the words?

I have set a target of posting at least every other day on my TikTok art page. To build an audience but also to put pressure on myself to keep on making work. The discipline of regular time spent creating. #followme #artist www.tiktok.com/@ruth.ducker...

Can we just evict from the planet all the nasty old white men (&elon) who seem to want to ruin the world for the rest of us. Replace them with anyone who can pass the Zelenskyy test. (Honourable, steadfast, courageous.)

This week watching the world unravel. Wondering about the disconnect between my social media feed compared to mainstream media reporting. Is the algorithm just feeding me resistance, because I want to see it? Or is the real world just happy to watch an epoch event like it was a marvel movie?

Moved mum into a care home a week ago. It is an emotionally confusing thing to see the impact of Alzheimers on a person. Her sense of humour is still fully intact, so at least we can laugh. Here is a picture I drew of her a few months ago.
