Meet Sadie! Born in 2000, Sadie arrived at the DSC in the spring of 2014. Recently, she experienced a mild laminitis flare-up. Thanks to careful monitoring and our laminitis management protocol, she recovered well and is back to her usual antics. #DonkeyLife #RescueDonkeys #ForeverHome

Don and Yo-Yo had their first dental appointments at the DSC, and they did great! Don has some age-related dental issues that will need ongoing attention. This is not unusual for an older donkey (he is 31) and he'll remain on a shorter dental schedule to help keep him comfortable and healthy.

Welcome to the DSC, Vanna! At 35 years old, this sweet mule has spent her entire life on the same farm. When her owner’s health began to change, Vanna needed a new home where she could continue to receive the lifelong care and support she deserves. And so, Vanna made her way to the DSC.

Peggy is looking very stylish these days! She has discovered the perfect fashion combination: red fly pants and matching red shoes! We think she’s pulling off the look beautifully. But Peggy’s therapeutic shoes aren’t just for style. They’re helping her feel more comfortable, too. #DonkeyCare

Here's Larry, staring longingly at the grass on the other side of the fence, just out of reach. Sometimes you just have to stop and appreciate what’s right in front of you, or in Larry’s case, what’s just on the other side of the fence!

A quiet morning moment… Sometimes, the best part of the day is simply having a friend nearby. Misty and Ricky were spotted enjoying a peaceful morning nap together, and honestly, we couldn’t think of a better way to start the day. A quiet nap beside a friend is a pretty lovely thing.

In 2024, when a citizen noticed a donkey in a field with a PVC pipe wrapped around his fetlock they reached out to the DSC and Provincial Animal Welfare Services (PAWS). PAWS investigated and his owner relinquished him into our care. And Luigi got a second chance. That is the power of advocacy.

Melody recently had a small ulcer on her eye, but with medication, it healed up nicely. She arrived at the DSC in 2021 at just one month old, with her mom and several other donkeys from a situation where they lacked appropriate shelter and care. We’re so glad to see her bright-eyed again!

Pearl arrived at the DSC in Aug 2013, following an SPCA investigation into neglect. Her overgrown hooves made every step difficult and painful. With dedicated farrier care she was able to get back on the road to recovery. Today, Pearl is a happy reminder of the difference a safe home can make.

Dunn has moved into the paddock with Oliver and Duke, and the introductions went beautifully. It means Duke won't have to spend the night on his own during the summer. Duke enjoys staying outside overnight, while Oliver prefers the coziness of his stall, so now everyone has what they need!
