I have a theory or more like an observation that in my head every year is totally dominated by a single season. That this season somehow hits you so hard, it launches you to heightened emotional states and you kinda feel it in your soul. And then thinking back to that year brings you that season

That's exactly right! Looking at doodles you don't like is proof your brain became better at drawing 🥰 and sometimes I feel when I spit out a really good drawing it's a bit of a stroke of luck. But getting better on average is real progress 😌 you're so sweet 🫶 I'm really just saying what I think 🥰

That's sooooo not true! I feel like you gained a lot of fluidity in your drawings and they look so cool! I used to do that too, get really sad I made no progress but I was looking at it wrong. I compared my best from now and then when there's not that big a difference.

After reading the summer newsletter, my suspicions that Darkners can be "fresh"; they didn't know their names, their forms are new and they're not used to them or to eachother. I'm glad, cause it completely invalidates the theory that Darkners who have a history popped up with fake memories

I think people might have assumed (so did I at first) that you knew about that first Toby post. Since you know of the "opposite of miss Tenna" one it seems like you follow Toby and the newsletters etc and the "I miss Tenna" quote was popular after ch3 came out

They said it because they're both the main boss of the chapter, and the main new darkner character there. It's not about their personalities or their background, just their role in the game for the chapter. That's mostly it, it's not any deeper than that.

I'm not sure if you know the full context (I assume not from your question) After ch3 Toby posted that their friend who playtested the game said that they already miss Tenna. Then presumably the same person said "what's the opposite of I miss Tenna" about Flowery after playing ch5

At best I can concede that the timeline of when the game takes place currently is vague on purpose and that the conflicting facts and references are also intentional. But a claim that the game takes place "in the modern day" (i.e. between now and almost ten years ago?) is totally unconvincing

Be explained by the fact that it's directed at the player, and is non diagetic. As is the fact they're explaining UI which is not relevant to the characters in the game, but is relevant to the player, and is actually a stronger bit of proof the DR world is set in a different time.

Even from a practical standpoint, the first chapter came out in what, 2018? Given it's 2026 now, modern day makes absolutely no sense aside from a couple of vague references to modern media. That came out between 2018-2025. The only relevant argument I've seen is Ralsei's manual which can

But completely feasible in 2010-ish when they were outdated, but not completely out, especially if you weren't well off. Tenna's growing fear of irrelevance would make no sense in 2020; TV getting pushed out by computers in 2010 was something that happened.

I was a teen then, and so was Toby. It was also the time where the game was conceived. The way these characters dress, act (Noelle in particular, she has a distinct 2010s nerdy Tumblr/live journal girl vibe), the fact that Kris has a CRT at home which would be very bizarre in 2020s

As for the game taking place in the modern day- aside from references that seem to me more incidental and aimed at the player rather than actually telling us something about the story, there are bits actually relevant to it that would make sense for it to happen in the early 2010s.
