The Jeffrey Epstein story brings out two of the worst traits in journalists and — to really point fingers here — in our audiences. First, the human tendency to fill in gaps with wild theories that flatter our prejudices; second, the bias toward what’s new over what’s known.Kent Brockman blaming the viewers

also wtf is this?
from the Rolling Stone article: Nor do today’s young men have their own Hemingway, Kerouac, or Bukowski, a generation-defining writer who captures the plight of men in all of its rugged beauty and brutish toxicity. The circumstances are ripe for such a writer to emerge as it is, regardless of your politics, a fascinating and fraught time to be a man. The Left urges men to ditch their so-called toxic masculinity, which alienates them from their feelings and pits them in an endless competition with themselves and others to succeed at all costs. Instead, they should adopt a more evolved masculinity, one that is strong, yes, but also loving, empathetic, forgiving, and emotionally aware. The right has gained traction by saying the left is emasculating you, feminizing you, making you a “cuck.” Denying your primal, masculine nature will only leave you weak and unhappy. It’s only by harnessing that energy that you will succeed, professionally, socially and romantically, the right says.

Leaving Corbyn aside, the case against Zohran is being made on stupid shit like below—and I worry about the constant repetition and insinuation having an effect unless you try to enforce a hard line against the smears on the Dem side at least. Maybe I'm wrong 🤷‍♂️, I don't know.
ADL: "Unfortunately, it should come as no surprise that anti-Zionists have felt empowered and energized by Mamdani’s win; the candidate himself has endorsed the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement and has defended anti-Israel rhetoric, including calls to “Globalize the Intifada” — a slogan generally understood as a call for indiscriminate violence against Israel, and potentially against Jews and Jewish institutions worldwide — despite the damage it wreaks on the Jewish community."

I wouldn’t have ended those programs, but would end stuff like this.
From 1980 to 1994, USAID contributed to the massive military expansion in El Salvador, backing the ruling military junta. The aid provided through USAID went to promote counterinsurgency efforts propping up the military government who were responsible for death squad activities and mass civilian killings. In the same period in Nicaragua, the USAID-funded Contra war resulted in tens of thousands of deaths.

Mr. free speech warrior who thinks we should shun anyone whose views fall outside the mainstream.
TCW: Any person who says “property doesn’t matter, only people do,” should be dismissed out of hand as insane. It takes so much time and effort and labor to purchase a home, to build a business, to innovate the technology that can produce a driverless car. It is outrageous to say or imply that this is somehow a category apart from real people’s lives.

This was conducted over the pandemic, so might need to take this with a grain of salt. Design here seems a little lacking, too.
One thousand racially and ethnically diverse mothers with incomes below the U.S.
federal poverty line were recruited from postpartum wards in 2018-19, and randomized to
receive either $333/month or$20/month for the first several years of their children’s lives.
After the first four years of the intervention (n=891), we find no statistically significant
impacts of the cash transfers on four preregistered primary outcomes (language, executive
function, social-emotional problems, and high-frequency brain activity) nor on three
secondary outcomes (visual processing/spatial perception, pre-literacy, maternal reports of
developmental diagnoses). Possible explanations for these results are discussed.

On Trump's crypto schemes:
Ethics and conflicts of interest: The final bill clarifies that special government employees are subject
to conflict-of-interest laws, but these employees are already subject to those rules. Minor clarifications
like these miss the forest for the trees: President Trump stands to take in huge sums of money every year
from transaction fees generated every time USD1 is used and interest earned on the stablecoin’s
investments. The GENIUS Act not only fails to apply any safeguards that would prevent the President
and his family from continuing to profit off his stablecoin and other crypto ventures, it also turbocharges
his corruption by expanding the reach of his stablecoin, which is already the 5th-largest stablecoin in the
world and being used by foreign government-backed investment funds to curry favor. Congress should
not grease the skids for the most egregious Presidential financial corruption in the history of our nation.

on the foreigner issuer loophole:
Foreign issuers and new loophole for Tether: The bill still provides foreign issued stablecoins, like
Tether, multiple avenues to access U.S. markets while evading the bill’s basic regulatory requirements.
The bill’s new language around foreign reciprocity agreements will mean little in practice. The Trump
administration, for example, could strike a reciprocity agreement with the Bukele regime in El Salvador,
where Tether is based, allowing Tether full access to the U.S. market while sidestepping the
requirements of the bill. Even if El Salvador does not receive a reciprocity agreement, the bill permits
Tether and other unauthorized foreign issued stablecoins to be listed and circulated on “decentralized”
exchanges in the U.S. without having to comply with lawful orders to freeze and seize funds of illicit
actors, let alone the rest of the bill’s requirements. This “DeFi” loophole is a new addition to the latest
draft of the bill. While the bill does provide the Secretary of the Treasury with the authority to delist
noncompliant foreign issuers, that authority only applies to centralized exchanges. The timeline for
finalizing a delisting decision, as outlined in the bill, is so long that terrorists and cartels can and will
easily move funds out of the identified wallets before a stablecoin issuer is required to act, making the
system ineffective against criminal actors.

Abolitionists make such great points on this
I guess that answer won’t satisfy people who want you to provide them with a solution, with the solution. Who immediately want to know: “how are we going to deal with the rapists and the murderers?” This is the question that always gets thrown at anybody who identifies as abolitionist—and my question back is “what are you doing right now about the rapists and the murderers?” That’s the first thing: Is what’s happening right now working for you? Are you feeling safer? Has the current approach ended rape and murder? The vast majority of rapists never see the inside of a courtroom, let alone get convicted and end up in prison. In fact, they end up becoming President. So the system you feel so attached to and that you seem invested in preserving is not delivering what you say you want, which is presumably safety and an end to violence. Worse than that it is causing inordinate additional harm. The logics of policing and prisons are not actually addressing the systemic causes and roots of violence.

Can't bring myself to listen to the podcast, but here's some Bari Weiss text giving background on Khalil's arrest, which is just smears and with no full-throated defense of his free speech rights.
Free press: Many of us believe that Khalil’s ideology is abhorrent. He enjoyed the United States’ educational system—attending one of our most prestigious universities—while advocating for America’s destruction and for a group that seeks the genocide of the Jewish people.

At the same time, the case for his deportation is not clear-cut. Here’s the divide:

No one cares about this stuff, according to them.
Axios article citing Third Way saying: In unveiling the project, Third Way says: "Shuttering USAID, using government power to attack political opponents, firing indiscriminately, degrading the civil service, releasing J6ers, or blaming Ukraine for the Russian invasion all are a combination of unwise, unethical, illegal, or unconstitutional. But none resonate much with key voters."
