The tiny glow from the cigarette reflected in James’ round glasses as he inched closer to retrieve his slipper from the ground where it landed after chucking it at his friend.
“No,” James told him, earning a glare from Sirius. “I’m tired of you not talking when you get like this. I’m your best mate, tell me what’s going on.”
Sirius took another drag from his cigarette before responding.
“I don’t want to talk about it,” he said before pressing the f-g into the ash tray, putting it out, and glanced at James. The look on James’ face made Sirius’ stomach sink with guilt. He clearly just wanted to help and Sirius was pushing him away, and for what? To maintain a facade? What was it worth when it came down to it?
