Agreed (as someone also scarred from merciless early-years taunting). Even as much as I loathe T*p, there's billions of valid reasons to go after his actions and character instead of needing to target his appearance. (I've been guilty of doing that myself, and am not proud of it.)

That seems a kind of perfect metaphor for what actual hearts are like. <3

The heaventree of stars hung with humid nightblue fruit. (A favorite line of mine from Ulysses by James Joyce.)

There needs to be a word for "this hurts to read/hear because I'll never experience this again, but it's outweighed by the solace of seeing/hearing this beautiful thing beautifully expressed".

I often feel this way about every film by Robert Eggers and Hayao Miyazaki. (And *maybe* Denis Villeneuve, Guillermo del Toro, and Hitchcock.)

<3 Oh wow! I hadn't heard of Wildwood, but now that'd be at the top of my next-movie list (if I dared to make one). I don't think I've ever seen a stop-motion film I haven't loved.

I'm also 52 exactly, and... desperately aspiring to this. To stop being weighed down by feeling that my age is one more of the many ways the world's shutting me out. To aspire to this same sense of joy that can say: I still have so much love and intelligence and delight to offer if given the chance.

Stimming #autism #autistic #poetry
"Stimming"

How much *me*
can I be for you?

Do you need
the one who meets your eyes,

or can I be
the one who hears you?

The one whose hands
become birds?

The one who catches facts
and follows them for miles?

The one who catches songs
and flowers at the mouth?

The one who brings not water,
but the river?

The one who brings not one star,
but the sky?

The one who cannot say
*I love this*

without meaning:
I’ve built an altar,

come dance, dance, dance
beside this flame?

Oh, I think this may be beyond me now. This isn't photography or photoblogging anymore; this is the Sean McCormick Cinematic Universe. :-)

The poem's been near sacred to me all my life, but I knew it wouldn't be the poem (any more than Joyce's Ulysses was). I went in expecting a *vision* of it, and thought that on its own terms as a film, it was masterful. (Almost wrote a 15-post thread, but for me bsky isn't a place to blog.)

Thanks so much! I saw this in full 70mm IMAX — the first time I've *ever* seen any IMAX film — and it practically took me out of my skin in the best way. Greatest theater experience of my life, hands down.

I haven't seen a movie in a theater in a decade. My #autism & #disability are getting much worse. Crowds & loudness & dark, confined spaces with lots of climbing are a nightmare combo. I wonder when the last time will be that I'm able to do something like this. But I was able to do it today.

I was literally born to Joni, with my biological mother having a tape of "The Circle Game" (the Ladies of the Canyon version, ofc) playing as I came into the world. I've often thought if I can work it out that way, I'll have her later-life Travelogue rendition of that song playing as I leave.

Barry did try to teach me Gaeilge, but it was slow going — and even as a Dubliner born & bred, he barely knew it himself. But I tried for love of the language, history & culture of Ireland... *not* out of fearful necessity. An rud a ghoilleas ar an gcroí caithfidh an t-súil é a shileas. 2/end

I was working towards citizenship living with my husband in Ireland before he died in 2007. When he did, a senator & former Dublin mayor wanted to keep me in the country. It wasn't possible, but they tried. To see this slide into anti-immigrant fascism now in my heart's home is crushing to me. 1/2

"The Cartographer" by Noah Grey: A poem meditating on grief and isolation drawing deeply on the language of cartography. (My apologies, but this is a long poem and the Bluesky alt-text character limit is too short to allow me to post the text here.)

The Old Apartment #photography #photosky #minimalism #absence #solitude #oc
"The Old Apartment" by Noah Grey. A dark, minimalist photograph of an empty room bathed in night blue. Light filters through white window blinds, casting a grid of pale blue and white stripes into the centered corner across a bare carpet and up the wall across a closed door. The rest of the room dissolves into deep shadow, its corners hushed and still. The intended mood is a sense of transience and solitude, the echo of a life recently departed or yet to begin.

Got tickets to see The Odyssey this week! It'll be my first time in a decade going to a movie theater, & first ever IMAX experience. And first since my autism (with pain @ crowds, loudness, confined spaces, etc) got much worse — but I'm trying to stay positive about facing the challenge.

Half our lifetimes later, and I've never stopped being grateful for the kindness of this man. 🙏
A screenshot of a paragraph from Wil Wheaton's blog post, "Being A Brief History of It’s Storytime With Wil Wheaton". The paragraph reads: "It always felt like a significant accomplishment, even if the editorial hand from the mainstream publications was heavier than it needed to be. For instance, Wall Street Journal. When I wrote about choosing kindness online in a world where that seemed to be less and less common, I included a passage about my fear that Elon Musk would turn Twitter into exactly what he turned it into. The editors cut it because they knew it was true and they know who their audience is. Still, I got to tell the world how important Noah Grey is to all bloggers, so I accepted the compromise." The last sentence is shown highlighted because *duh*. If anyone needs me, I'm just going to be sitting over here making various autistic-squee noises about it.

When that came out, it had three different endings showing in different theaters — and I made my sister take me all across the city to see each one. Those were the days. "It - it - the f - it - flam - flames. Flames, on the side of my face, breathing - breathl - heaving breaths. Heaving breaths..."

the lessons we need to take are clear. Dolly said "find out who you are and do it on purpose", and Tim Curry's line is "don't dream it, be it" they would both be disappointed if we wrote that off as corny. so what? it's necessary. we have everything to lose if we are dishonest to ourselves.

I've never worn deeper embarrassment with deeper pride. And I hope the women still have a fond laugh over that memory, too, wherever they are now. RIP, Dolly. Thank you for all the joy you gave the world. I hope you'll let my Barry thank you for the joy you brought us both. (4/end)

They choked on their smiles when they saw Texas on my ID, me blushing furiously through the longest checkout of my life, & exploded in loud laughter the moment I left the store. But the DVD made him deliriously happy, for the only Christmas we had together, & doubly so when he heard the story. (3/4)

We lived in Dublin, but I'm from Texas. I ran into the shop to get it before closing, while he was elsewhere. There was almost no one else in the store except two teenage girls at the counter, and I was/am *painfully* autistically shy in person — and I knew how they were going to react. (2/4)

Shortly before he died, my husband developed a big Dolly Parton obsession after watching a marathon of her films on TV one night — and so as part of Christmas gifts, I wanted to get him what DVDs of hers I could. But our mall store only had one in stock: The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. (1/4) 🧵

I'm autistic, and I take deception and abandonment extremely badly — and the more it happens, the worse it gets. I'm scared I'm losing my ability to trust people altogether.

@baddaywithacamera.bsky.social — there's tons of Canadian culture that's justly famous down here, and much more that deserves to be, like the work of my friend here. (From an American who's loved Canada all my life — literally *born* with Joni playing in the room — & hates what my country's become.)

I'm in the long process of cleaning out my closet and thousands of files in it. A big part of it has been finally allowing myself to get rid of things related to toxic people from my past. I mostly let them go in my heart a long time ago — it's bittersweetly healing to finally do so more tangibly.
