There is a big Sasquatch statue in a spooky, Halloween-year-round themed coffee shop in Portland. Vampires, bats, death, and Sasquatch. It’s a solid cryptid but not a good monster. It runs away from people, like they are the monster and Sas is the Final Quatch.

I was moved to look up Words Like Fortnight, and discovered nychtheremon: a period containing a full day and night. Essentially 24 hours starting from dawn or dusk. E.g. "It took nychtheremons of cutting goats' throats before Nychtheremon clambered from the slick of the sacrificial channel."

I have bad days at home just like bad days in the office, but at least I didn’t have to change my kid’s school. My current jalf-remote team is on Slack all the time, keeping up as well as anyone but without bothering bystanders trying to do something else. It’s bizarre anyone wants an office.

This thing haunted me for YEARS. I saw the image reprinted in the movie listings in the newspaper, so I was terrified of a greasy greyscale version of this pug in a plastic sack. Wha? I tried to describe this thing to a child therapist once. I tracked it down recently. Very disappointed in myself.

How can data centers drive economies locally? The more powerful and ubiquitous a corporation is, the less tax they seem to pay. You need labor for the initial build, then very little. Everything seems offset by resource use and the shame of hosting a data center. I don't get it.

I remember when I first got some old expansion for WoW, noticing all the new female characters were sexy humans plus horns or tail, but all the new male characters got to be diverse and interesting. I don't know whether this always happens but I expect it often does.
