Bringing Kla Tham into government could strengthen Bhumjaithai’s parliamentary position, but securing its 58 MPs would come at a ministerial cost. #Thailand #อนุทิน #ธรรมนัส #พรรคภูมิใจไทย #พรรคกล้าธรรม #ปรับครม

Opinion: The ministerial price of bringing Kla Tham into government
If Thammanat’s Kla Tham Party joins Anutin’s government, the invitation will come from Bhumjaithai. Bhumjaithai would therefore most likely surrender some of its ministerial posts to accommodate Kla Tham’s nominees and avoid upsetting Pheu Thai. The aim would be to strengthen the coalition, not create another dispute within it. That would require setting aside earlier grievances. Kla Tham’s initial exclusion followed a dispute over constituencies it had reportedly agreed not to contest against Bhumjaithai, alongside disagreements over ministerial demands.

Opinion: Anger Without a Common Front
The Election Commission’s handling of the Senate collusion case will deepen public distrust, but anger alone will not produce a mass protest. Thailand’s opposition forces are divided, its major parties have little appetite for sustained street action, and many activists who once mobilised large crowds are now imprisoned, in exile or fighting criminal cases. The EC referred only 77 of 427 respondents to the Supreme Court’s Election Cases Division and for criminal proceedings.

Cambodia said it was prepared to negotiate an interim agreement with Thailand to jointly develop offshore resources without waiting for a final maritime boundary settlement, as the two countries opened their first UNCLOS conciliation meeting in Singapore on Tuesday. Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn said Phnom Penh ultimately wanted a treaty establishing a single maritime boundary. If the two sides failed to reach agreements on delimitation or joint development, Cambodia would ask the conciliation commission to issue recommendations for a future settlement.

Why I Don’t Believe This Protest Is About Gaza
I do not believe the protest against Israel is about Gaza at all. Gaza was added to broaden the movement’s appeal and give a human-rights cover to a campaign driven by nationalism and domestic Thai politics. The leaders’ records make that clear. Former yellow-shirt leader Sondhi Limthongkul was joined by former People’s Alliance for Democracy spokesman Panthep Puapongpan, lawyer and former PAD leader Nitithorn “Nok Khao” Lamluea, and Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand leader Pichit Chaimongkol.

In the basement of Chamchuri Square, a few steps from Sam Yan MRT, there is a small tea shop called CiliC. It is easy to miss. These days, especially inside Chamchuri Square, more and more spaces are occupied by chain stores, franchises, or businesses backed by larger capital. Small independent coffee and tea shops are becoming increasingly rare. CiliC is one of the few places that still feels run by a person rather than by a brand manual.

Thailand Holds Policy Rate at 1% as Expected
Thailand’s Monetary Policy Committee unanimously voted to keep the policy interest rate unchanged at 1.00% on Wednesday, in line with market expectations, saying the current accommodative stance remained appropriate to support the economic recovery. The Bank of Thailand said the economy was growing broadly in line with its previous forecasts of 2.3% in 2026 and 1.8% in 2027. Exports and private investment have performed better than expected, supported by the technology and artificial intelligence cycle, but their reliance on imported inputs has limited benefits for the wider economy.

Imported EVs and falling pickup sales raise concerns despite stronger July vehicle demand
Imported electric vehicles, predominantly from China, accounted for nearly two-thirds of electric passenger car sales during the first seven months, prompting the Federation of Thai Industries to call for tax reforms to protect domestic manufacturers. Automotive industry club chairman Suwat Supakarndechakul and spokesman Surapong Paisitpatanapong said only 46,924 of the 125,411 electric passenger vehicles sold between January and July were produced domestically.

Is it finally OK to question your doctor? : An interview with Dr. Gerard Lalande
Patients in Thailand have traditionally been reluctant to question their doctors, with diagnoses often accepted without discussion and requests for second opinions sometimes viewed as a challenge to medical authority. That is beginning to change as younger generations become more willing to ask questions and online resources, including artificial intelligence, give patients easier access to medical information. Dr. Gerard Lalande, a French-trained physician who has worked in Southeast Asia for more than 30 years, has witnessed that shift firsthand, first in the Philippines and later in Thailand.

Government insists on majority Thai ownership for Starlink despite regional exemptions
The government insists that Thai investors must hold a majority stake in any Starlink operation, maintaining a restriction that could prevent the satellite internet provider from entering Thailand despite regional exemptions and ongoing trade negotiations with the United States. Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob said on Friday that SpaceX would need a Thai partner holding at least 51%. He said an arrangement involving technology transfer would be acceptable, but rejected allowing the company to establish a wholly foreign-owned subsidiary.
