The “Love Trouble” story in the 1941 Mickey strip is arguably the best the characters were ever drawn. (it’s the one with Mickey kicking out a window that goes around) It’s in Vol. 6 of the Gottfredson Library, and will likely be in whatever collections they’re planning for the rat’s centennial.

R.I.P. Dan McGrath, who gets writing credits on most of The Simpsons’ golden years, including for what I think is the best episode of the entire series, “The Devil and Homer Simpson”. I don’t think Dave Silverman would have went as nuts with this if it didn’t all start with that sharp script.

People involved with the reboot say Hardwick’s reads varied wildly. But you can’t get rid of Dale. (On the other hand, they basically got rid of Luanne in the last years of the original show because of Murphy’s increasing dysfunction, so her departure isn’t that harsh.)
