I'm proud of myself. Today I functioned like a totally normal person at work in my professional career. I managed this despite the fact that all I wanted to do the entire day is cry because I'm still bananas sad about my best friend I lost 2 years ago.

An entire sports team found Goose while I was waiting for my coffee this morning. I wish I had taken a picture of his face. It was like Christmas morning for him. He had a spring in his step the entire rest of the walk.

He was a dog. But he was so much more to me. It makes me feel weak that it has affected me like this. It makes me feel like I'm insane. I know there are so many people who wouldn't even begin to empathize, and that makes me feel like I'm just strange.

I just think about him and cry. I look at pictures of him and I miss him so deeply that I can't do anything but sit deep in the center of my own feelings and just let them own my time. This grief, this pain is so perplexing, so difficult to understand for me.

I get angry more quickly, I get frustrated at almost nothing, I feel like my poor partner only gets to see the worst of me now. I expected the grief and the pain to lessen by now, but it's only gotten more intense. I cry a lot when I'm alone these day.

When he died it was like I lost a part of my soul. Not an insignificant piece that might cause one to feel loss from time to time. A massive chunk of what I feel deep inside me just turned off that day. I feel it every day I wake up.

So now I post about my dog and cat (I wrote dogs initially because I have still not normalized having only one of my dogs with me these days 😭) Here they are
