Another late night network maintenance and my wife is mad I worked too late. I have been dialing back over-working but night maintenances are unavoidable.

I switched to a Mac from Windows for work and it has been great since most network gear runs a variation of Unix/Linux so I have been forced to learn to keep my job. It is a pain when software does not support Linux so I keep a windows box around at home

I have a prebuilt Intel NUC I use for studying and gaming. The skull is ostentatious but handles everything I throw at it. I play Diablo 4 mostly. Good luck to you and hit me up if you have questions. a.co/d/2H6qhbF

Here is a rig a built for my sis. Watercooled so it’s whisper quiet. She uses it for gaming and streaming. It’s fully maxed so it can do everything you want. You can get something similar just dial back the specs o fit budget. The GPU is a RTX4090 and by itself can be $2500+

One of my posts on IoT and security: When adding “smart” appliances to your home network, change default passwords and connect them to a different SSID on a separate vlan on your network. If possible, have a zone based firewall to further segment your IoT traffic.

Spare optics, if you have some laying around. But for real, always put your console cable back in your bag when done. Traveling all the way back home or office from the site is not fun because you forgot to pack it.

Nice! I’ve seen devs kick and scream to avoid patching vulnerabilities for a number of reasons. All are moot if security is concerned.

To software devs, please enable debugging on your apps to help your networking team help solve your problem. PCAPs from the upstream device shows a lot of info, but we miss visibility from the client side.

Do not do personal stuff on a work device and work stuff on a personal device. Keep that line of demarcation for you and your company’s safety.
