Precisely this. The assumptions people have about how votes will move around if there is no Green candidate illustrates a lack of understanding of electoral politics.

And that's something there is evidence for. People who will vote Green as their first choice voting for Reform as their second, and vice versa. The idea that anyone other than those taking a deep interest in politics thinks about things in terms of left and right is not understanding the electorate.

This ☝🏻 This assumption that so many people are making, which is not rooted in any evidence, that Green voters will definitely go and vote for Burnham is wild. They might stay at home, they might spoil their ballot, they might vote for Count Binface, or one of several other possibilities.
