C31 / IC 405 / Sh2-229 The Flaming Star Nebula - telescope processed image. The nebula is energized by AE Aurigae, a high-velocity runaway star ejected millions of years ago from a multiple-star collision in the Orion Nebula. C31 / IC 405 / Sh2-229 The Flaming Star Nebula - unprocessed image. It features both red emission nebulosity from ionized hydrogen and a blue reflection component created as AE Aurigae's light scatters off fine interstellar dust.
