So… supply creates demand, now? Did anyone on Squawk Box challenge him?

Trump understands- he’s just following his orders from the Kremlin…

Wasn’t the Kennedy Center renovated just six years ago for $250 million?

Would the transfer of shares to pay the wealth tax be a taxable event resulting in recognition of the gains accrued on the transferred shares? (I.e., so the act of paying the wealth tax would also result in triggering capital gains tax too?)

But not quite. In fact, it’s one of the few places on Earth where one can actually see the curvature of the Earth.

Call me crazy but, employing renewable energy sources to conserve a valuable but exhaustible materials resource for future generations… wouldn’t that be the more conservative thing to do?

What happened to the America of Grantland Rice? When did it turn from “it matters not if you won or lost, it’s how you played the game” to venerating “greed is good” and “kick butt” as credos and values?

The US’ much vaunted “checks and balances” are wholly based on a presumption that the legislative, executive and judicial branches, and the free press, would be populated in the majority with people of courage and character. No provision was made for the possibility that presumption could fail.

Why’s this an issue now, when it was a complete non-issue for the first 60 of my 77 years on earth? Maybe 1 in a thousand is transgender and I’m sure that 1’s been comfortably using and continues to use their gender’s restroom without incident or anyone even noticing, let alone raising a fuss.

Forgive me, I thought you were defending the bombing against Kinzinger’s implied criticism thereof.

Has it not occurred to you that this US bombing could accelerate their acquiring nukes “for their own protection”, either by their own means or by getting them from their allies, like N. Korea, China or… Russia?

It’s interesting how, once the four of them have you helplessly pinned to the ground, they always find it necessary to beat your head in.

What message was the Army sending to Trump, yesterday? Obviously, the officer corps (the General Staff?) had to be in on this obvious snub. Were they telling him that the US Army can’t be used by him for his own unConstitutional ends? Let’s hope so.

If we’re talking about putting Man on the Moon, NASA recruited dozens of Canadian engineers specifically to work on the Apollo Space program, including the guy who headed up NASA’s Space Task Group, the lunar lander chief engineer, the guy who developed the Apollo 11 heat shield, etc., etc.

Well you can start by stop using euphemisms like “tone deaf”. She’s not “tone deaf”. She’s uncaring, negligent and doesn’t give a sh*t about anyone other than herself.

Ah, but how to distinguish the disinterested act from the corrupt? The inability for anyone to conclusively draw that distinction is why politicians and judges must avoid both the impropriety itself and any appearance of impropriety, too. And why there’s an emoluments clause in the Constitution.

Sadly, it’s not coming “in” to the US. Whatever the actual amount is, it’s being paid by American consumers to the US treasury. Not a dime is coming from outside the US.

Someone (i.e., an importer) has to take it to Court and then the Trump administration has to agree to follow the Courts’ decision when, 6 to 10 years from now and after all his rights to appeal are exhausted, he ultimately loses…

What does this mean in practice — that, if he were to become PM, he wouldn’t be allowed to see classified material, or that he’d be allowed to see classified material without having been cleared to see it? And what is he currently permitted to see as Leader of the Opposition, btw?

Trump will claim every vote for the Conservatives is a vote for the US “annexing” Canada. Canada needs all the symbolic rejection of those ambitions it can muster and, thus, like him or not, PP & the CPC must “take one for the Gipper” and get clobbered this time.

The Board (which he obviously owns, too) should have fired him (and the Cybertruck) long before now, for the sake of the brand. Now it’s too late and the brand’s likely tainted forever.

He's not an agent. "Agent" suggests the possibility of having some agency of one's own. Rather, he's "owned" lock stock and barrel by Russia in general and by Putin in particular. There's no other way to explain his actions - the dismantling of US institutions and alliances - to date.

When are American politicians, journalists and pundits going to start clearly articulating what's been patently obvious throughout Trump's presidencies - that he's deeply compromised (due to debt or other kompromat?) & under Putin's control and that EVERYTHING he does is for the benefit of Russia.

Musk and the current GOP don’t understand that there was no money in the pot when Soc Sec started and, thus, has always had to be a ‘pay as you go’ pension arrangement in which we paid pensions to our parents against the promise our children would pay a pension to us. The only ‘Ponzi’… (1/2)

Trump’s ”position on Ukraine” is driven by one factor only: doing exactly whatever Putin tells him to do.

Can we just make the word itself illegal and start using, say, “sympathetic”, or “empathetic” (so that GOPers would have to say they are against government that is “sensitive to people’s needs”) instead?

You see no difference between trying to effect a “grey area” order to benefit millions and mandating minority discrimination that is expressly prohibited by both federal and state law? And which state governor did Biden seek to publicly humiliate in relation to the student loan forgiveness?
110
Tom Falconer @tfalx.bsky.social · 22/02/2025
Biden didn’t try to use Executive Orders to supplant federal and state law. He knew that existing federal or state law must prevail over an Executive Order in conflict with said law and did not seek to publicly humiliate state governors who must ignore that Order in order to comply with said law.

Hiring additional tax auditors is always a deficit reduction money maker, typically yielding additional government revenues in the range of $1.50 to $2 for every $1 spent on additional salaries and related costs. That return ratio gets even better, the higher the income under audit.

Two tiny corrections: (1) it’s not the US that has insulted and betrayed us, rather it’s just your Russian agent president who’s done so, and (2) rather than destabilize us, he has united Canadians, and our democratic allies, as very few others ever have before.

But is it? Fox News’ nonstop dissemination of lies to incite hatred and rage has been the political equivalent of yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theatre and is largely responsible for bringing us to the perilous, and for some lethal, position we’re in today.

Can there be any clearer evidence that Trump has been badly compromised and is abjectly under Putin’s control? Ironic that, while one needs a security clearance for a plethora of menial government jobs, none can be required as a condition of running for President. American exceptionalism, indeed.

Ah, but only if (a) the judges are inclined to block said actions and (b) have some means of enforcing their rulings. Remind me again, by what means, exactly, can a federal court enforce a ruling against a President who doesn't wish to follow that ruling?

One thing for sure: however the dust ultimately settles, and regardless of MAGA’s ultimate fate, future relations between our two countries will never again attain the levels of trust and loyalty had been gained in the 150+ year relationship that Trump irretrievably brought to an end on Saturday.

Based on my small sample of one(1) ex-Wehrmacht foot soldier I worked with in the late 1960s, the only thing they got “wrong”, in his view, was that they lost the war. Had they won, everything would have been hunky-dory.

Is your $17 in 2024 dollars? My recollection is that in 1969 I was getting $3.84 an hour at a relatively high paying Canadian union job and I’d have guessed that the starting rate at GM in 1970 would have been in the range of $4 to $5 ph, (including benefits). 🤷🏼

Ah, but that’s not TDE. TDE is hokum anti-taxers use to rationalize NOT taxing banana man, I.e., by saying he’ll use his tax savings to hire even more people, etc, and thereby eliminate the need for social support programs that government could have otherwise paid for by taxing his banana profits.
