The framing of this picture 🤌 #blackandwhite #photography #bnwphotography #blackandwhitephotography #arizona
The image is a black-and-white photograph taken from a low angle, looking up at a rugged rock face. The stone surface is rough and layered, with deep cracks and uneven textures that catch the light in shades of gray. Bare tree branches frame the scene from the top and sides, their thin, twisting lines crossing the sky like veins. The sky itself is cloudy and muted, adding a somber, slightly dramatic atmosphere. Overall, the contrast between the solid, weathered rock and the delicate, skeletal branches gives the image a stark, moody, and timeless feel.

Am I crazy or do you guys see the heart in the tree too? #photography #blackandwhitephotography #photographer #arizona
The image is a high-contrast black-and-white photograph of an old, gnarled tree trunk. The wood is deeply weathered and twisted, with heavy, spiraling grain and cracked bark that suggests great age. Near the center, a natural hollow formed by curving branches creates a dark, heart-like opening, drawing the eye inward.

Light skims across the rough surfaces, emphasizing sharp ridges, splintered edges, and layered textures, while shadows pool in the crevices and cavities. Sparse grasses and thin, dry stems weave through the base of the trunk, adding fine, delicate lines against the dense, muscular mass of the wood. Overall, the image feels tactile and organic—focused less on the tree as an object and more on texture, time, and erosion.

I took this picture on my phone the other day and think it came out pretty good. #photography #blackandwhitephotography #photographer #bird #arizona
A close-up, black-and-white photograph of a raven in profile. The bird’s glossy feathers catch the light, revealing layered textures along its neck and shoulder. Its eye is sharply focused and reflective, giving an alert, intelligent presence. The long, slightly curved beak points left, while the background—concrete and gravel—falls softly out of focus, emphasizing the raven’s form and detail. The monochrome treatment heightens contrast, making the bird appear striking and almost sculptural against its muted surroundings.

Went for the texture and shades with this one. #photography #blackandwhitephotography #bnwphotography #photographer #arizona
The photo is a black-and-white image of a simple stone bench set against a rugged rock. The bench is constructed from three roughly hewn rectangular stone blocks: two shorter blocks act as supports, with a longer slab laid horizontally across the top. The stones have uneven, chiseled surfaces, showing cracks, chips, and layered textures that emphasize their weight and age.

The ground beneath is dusty and granular, bordered by a low concrete or stone edge that frames the bench. Behind it, the rock is stratified, with visible horizontal layers that echo the bench’s stacked geometry. The lighting is soft and directional, casting gentle shadows beneath the seat and along the stone edges, which enhances the textures and depth. Overall, the image feels quiet, austere, and timeless, focusing on form, material, and texture rather than color or ornament.

Saw this adorable dog while on a hike. #photography #photographer #petphotography #dogs #hiking
A medium-sized dog sits upright on a flat rock outdoors, posed calmly and alert. The dog has a tri-color coat—mostly black with a white chest and legs, and warm tan markings on the face and above the eyes. Its fur is slightly fluffy around the neck and chest, and its ears are semi-flopped, lifted by a light breeze. A collar with a tag and a leash are visible, suggesting it’s on a walk.

The background is softly blurred, filled with dry grasses, shrubs, and earthy tones, which makes the dog stand out sharply in focus. The lighting appears natural and bright, highlighting the texture of the fur and giving the scene a crisp, serene feel—like a quiet moment on a trail or in a natural reserve.

Two more shots from our field trip the other day. #photography #blackandwhitephotography #bnwphotography #photographer #arizona
The photograph shows ancient stone ruins perched directly on a rocky outcrop, rendered in stark black and white. The structure appears partially collapsed, its walls built from thin, flat stones stacked in uneven horizontal layers that echo the natural stratification of the rock beneath them. The ruin and the cliff feel almost fused together, as if the building grew out of the stone rather than being placed on it.

Several wooden beams and modern support braces cut diagonally across the scene, interrupting the ancient masonry. These additions feel utilitarian and temporary, emphasizing the age and fragility of the site while subtly marking human efforts to preserve what remains. Small rectangular openings—possibly windows or doorways—puncture the walls, dark voids that contrast sharply with the pale sky.

The composition is bottom-heavy, dominated by rough textures: eroded rock faces, fractured stones, and jagged edges. Above, the sky is smooth and nearly blank, creating a strong negative space that isolates the ruin and heightens its sense of exposure and silence. Overall, the image conveys endurance and decay at once—an austere, tactile portrait of time, weather, and human presence layered into the landscape. This photograph presents the same ruins from a slightly different angle, emphasizing their vertical mass and layered construction. The stone walls rise in stepped forms, built from thin, flat slabs stacked with deliberate irregularity. The masonry appears weather-softened, with edges chipped and surfaces smoothed by time, yet the structure still feels solid and weighty.

A large natural boulder is embedded within the architecture, forming part of the wall itself. The transition between carved stone and stacked stone is subtle, reinforcing the sense that the building was shaped around the landscape rather than imposed on it. Small rectangular openings puncture the walls, reading as dark, recessed voids that add rhythm and scale.

On the right side of the frame, modern metal scaffolding intrudes sharply into the scene. Its straight lines and industrial geometry contrast starkly with the organic irregularity of the ruins, underscoring the age of the structure and ongoing efforts to preserve it. The ground in the foreground slopes upward, rough and sparse, guiding the eye toward the central mass of stone.

The sky above is pale and empty, creating a broad field of negative space that isolates the ruin and heightens its monumentality. In black and white, the image becomes almost entirely about texture, form, and time—ancient stone locked in dialogue with both the land beneath it and the present-day structures holding it in place.

A texture shot I took the other day. #photography #blackandwhitephotography #bnwphotography #photographer #arizona
This is a stark black-and-white study of stone and time. A photo from old Puebloan ruins. The frame is filled with layered rock and stacked masonry, emphasizing rough, weathered textures over any clear sense of scale. The stones vary in shape and thickness, their edges chipped and uneven, suggesting age and long exposure to the elements. Natural striations in the rock run diagonally across the image, contrasting with the more deliberate, horizontal stacking of the ruins above.

The absence of people or sky detail keeps the focus entirely on surface and form—cracks, grooves, and compressed layers that feel almost geological as much as architectural. The high contrast deepens the shadows between stones, making the textures feel tactile and heavy, while the pale sky isolates the structure, giving it a quiet, monumental presence. Overall, the photo reads as a meditation on erosion, endurance, and the way human construction slowly merges back into the landscape.

A lonely carousel horse... #photography #colorphotography
The image shows a decorative carousel horse mounted on a small wrought-iron balcony outside a building. The horse is painted white with ornate floral designs in pink and blue, gold accents, and a red-and-blue saddle, attached to a vertical golden carousel pole. Behind it are tall, dark-framed windows reflecting daylight. On either side of the balcony railing sit large terracotta pots held in metal brackets. The building’s exterior appears old and textured, contrasting with the whimsical, colorful horse, giving the scene a charming, slightly surreal feel—as if a fairground element has been frozen in place on a historic façade.

Tlaquepaque 12/9/25 #photography #blackandwhitephotography #photographer
The photo is a black-and-white image of a textured stucco wall. Centered near the top, individual ceramic tiles spell out “TLAQUEPAQUE”, each letter set in a dark square with light lettering, slightly worn and uneven, giving a handcrafted feel.

Below the tiles is a small metal plaque that reads that entrance is restricted to tenants and customers only, adding a quiet, almost secretive tone. On the left side of the wall, there’s a simple door handle or latch, partially visible, suggesting an entrance just out of frame.

At the bottom, a few plants grow up against the wall, their leaves soft and organic against the rough, aged surface. The monochrome treatment emphasizes texture—cracks, grain, and weathering—creating a calm, understated, slightly nostalgic atmosphere.

Another one from Tlaquepaque. #blackandwhite #photography
The image is a black-and-white photograph of a restaurant exterior. A tall, vertical hanging sign reads “RENE” in large, stylized letters, with “RESTAURANT” in smaller text at the bottom. The sign is mounted on an ornate metal bracket attached to a textured stucco wall.

Below it, a framed menu display is fixed to the wall, containing printed sheets that suggest daily offerings or specials. To the right, a small staircase leads up to the entrance, bordered by simple railings and flanked by traditional lantern-style lights. Patterned tiles line the steps and doorway, adding subtle detail and old-world character.

A black and white from Tlaquepaque. #blackandwhite #photography #photographer
This is a black-and-white photograph of a weathered stone balustrade, shot from a low, slightly angled perspective. The repeating balusters run diagonally across the frame, creating a strong rhythm and sense of depth as they recede into shadow.

The stone looks old and rough—pitted, chipped, and uneven—catching hard light that emphasizes texture and age. Sunlight falls from the left, casting deep, dramatic shadows beneath the railing and across the cobblestone ground. The contrast is high, with bright highlights on the stone edges and dense blacks in the shaded areas.

In the background, trees and foliage blur into darker shapes, framing the structure and giving the scene a quiet, almost somber mood. There are no people present, which adds to the stillness. Overall, it feels timeless and contemplative—like a fragment of an old garden, cemetery, or historic estate captured in a moment of late afternoon light.

I've been sitting on this photo since around Halloween. It originally didn't make it into my final photos, but I think it should still be shared.
This is a black-and-white photograph taken from a hidden angle—like you’re peering through heavy curtains with tassels into a quiet room.

At the center, two human-shaped figures sit on chairs, completely draped in white sheets. The fabric falls smoothly over their heads and bodies, obscuring any identity and turning them into ghostlike forms. One sits slightly forward, the other facing them, their stillness giving the scene an unsettling calm. The folds of the sheets catch soft window light, creating gentle highlights against the darker room.

The setting feels old and intimate: textured walls, patterned curtains, a small table, and decorative hanging objects above, star-shaped lights—suggest a historic or ornate interior. The foreground is blurred and dark, framing the subjects and reinforcing the feeling that the viewer is not meant to be here.

Hey Bluesky! I’m starting up a page here for my photography work. If you’re interested in photography, especially black and white, consider following me. I’ll be posting every week so look out for my posts! Can’t wait to share more of my art with all of you. 😊
It’s a stark black-and-white photograph of a weathered cemetery set in an open, scrubby landscape. In the foreground, a heavy stone cross has fallen and lies tilted in the grass, its surface rough and speckled with lichen, edges softened by time. The cross feels close and imposing, almost intruding into the frame, as if the ground itself has shifted beneath it.

Behind it, the graveyard stretches out unevenly—thin fence posts, crooked markers, and another cross standing upright but distant, slightly blurred. The land rolls into low hills in the background, empty and quiet, with no trees or buildings to anchor the scene. The sky is pale and overcast, blending softly into the hills, giving the whole image a muted, timeless feel.

Overall, the photo feels lonely and contemplative. The fallen cross suggests neglect, decay, or the slow inevitability of time, while the wide, empty surroundings amplify a sense of isolation and stillness—like a place long forgotten, holding its silence carefully.
