her bangles i felt were a nice accessory to make up for giving up the flowy parts. as well as a red bracelet with a little gold charm. that's based off of those "good health" bracelets my mom would always get me from colombia whenever she'd go.

i felt the shawl and slim dress with the mermaid feathering at the end was the play? the main inspiration was colombian cumbia dresses! however for the sake of simplicity i had to forgo the flowy tapering of the dress. you can see that i embraced it in her RAVE design tho

time for my boring spiel about her design in general: first and foremost, i'm hispanic but i am woefully so spiritually white. i was born and raised in canada, speaking english and on white culture. i felt that dulce had to hone in on the culture i wish i embraced growing up

the forlorn vibe really fits her i think. many of my disabled characters reflect this veil of helplessness. i'm projecting lol. i've drawn her with forearm crutches before, but didn't end up liking how i drew her, so i have no evidence of that so you'll have to trust me on that one.

hypothetical rave form which i got pretty far into, before realizing i don't really care much for it, do with it as you will

i feel like the most "caramel" part about her is the hair which was meant to represent... maybe a drizzle? haha i got the idea for her late at night.

i felt like she needed to lean into something more mature, which is reflected in the final design. i feel as if flavor rave already has a bunch of plucky little guys anyway. you can also see the main points of her character here.

here was her first proper rendition, when i thought of the name i was thinking about how many other cultures adopt an english name.. so in case you butcher the hell out of "dulce de leche" you can just call her "caramel"

hey, #FlavorRaveContest2 ! this is dulce de leche, or caramel. both work. "an opera singer hailing from the preheats. she is passionate and true to herself, which leads to her falling easily to her daydreams and want for something more idyllic." vv designer/artists notes and lore in replies vv
