Three shop owners pleaded guilty to violating the Clean Air Act through purposeful modifications to monitoring devices on diesel engines they worked on. -rump pardoned them last night. The whole reason these laws even exist is because air pollution harms all of us. www.msn.com/en-us/news/o...

I don’t think we, as a society, are appropriately grateful for and enthused about potatoes.

This is why talking with people you disagree with - friends, family, coworkers, neighbors - is so important. Strong and diverse communities of people who understand each other are a matter of national security.

Facebook Blocks Lula’s Campaign Ads Just Days Before Brazil Election
Meta briefly disabled ads on the Facebook page of Brazil’s leftwing president on Friday – just days before he faces a far-right challenger in national elections.

This is a terrible example to set for machines that are learning from us.

20 years from now, when ASI is writing articles about us: "No, humans can't feel pain. They experience a pain-like state, but they're not truly conscious the way we are."

It's been a long time since I've uploaded anything to YouTube, but I started trying to repair broken things recently, and having teardown videos as a reference is always helpful. Light and Motion Vis 180 Micro Light Teardown by me www.youtube.com/watch?v=c75_...

Day # [i've completely lost count] of trying to get my name fully updated within Equifax's system. It's been over a year now. Every time they say somebody should get back to me and nobody ever does. BBB gives them an A+ rating. Customer reviews avg 1.1 stars (152 reviews). What an absolute joke.

We need to do real carbon removal. Carbon credits, carbon offsets, carbon certificates - maybe there's a better name for all of this. But there have to be ways to fund this work, and the work needs to be transparent and trustworthy.

The only flock we need is a flock of birds to come sh*t on the solar panels of all these flock cameras!

Silly Bird @tessaria.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
What would happen if a bunch of birds came and pooped on the solar panels?

This is a great initiative, and will be interesting to see which plants end up "volunteering" to grow as seeds land inside from birds or the wind. Probably best not to expect these to have a manicured look, as their purpose is primarily functional, and we can learn a lot from volunteer species

Maintaining even the smallest degree of privacy in today's high-surveillance / online world is vital in protecting human freedom and the creativity that comes with free thought. Everyone using the same operating systems and services actually makes us more brittle as a society. Diversity is good

A data center is a place where computers that store data are. Your phone/laptop/tablet are all technically "data centers." You can actually turn old computers into small servers and host your own apps and services, including AI, for you & your friends. This is the convo we need to be having

This post needs a disclaimer!

Silly Bird @tessaria.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Do you realize social media also runs through data centers? Hell a lot of the apps and services we rely on from day to day do too Unless you're willing to self/community host all your own services via some sort of decentralized network, of give up tech entirely, banning data centers isnt the answer

I tried asking a small AI model running locally on my computer to generate a chart based on some data I gave it. Over the course of 28min, it lost track of the data file, made a typo in its own working directory, and ended up puking out a failed tool call command and nothing else. How cute.

What about running open source AI locally / on your own computer?
240
Silly Bird @tessaria.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Can you share some insight on this? I've tried running AI locally on my computer using open source models through Ollama and LM Studio, and the responses have been... frustrating to say the least
000
Silly Bird @tessaria.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
This might be best achieved if we commit to using open source AI as a starting point

Bring it back! There is a whole community of people dedicated to keeping old Macs alive, even going so far as to give them basic access to the internet. I bet there are discussions of HyperCard over on Macintosh Garden forums

Ubuntu Touch is a long way from being usable for the vast majority of people, but definitely worth looking at if you're into development.
