There's about a month left to submit something to the Asian Philosophy of Science Association's inaugural conference! Consider submitting an abstract, and encouraging early-career scholars (especially those from or based in Asia) to submit an essay for the APSA Essay Prize.

Trying to get my thoughts together about the passing of George Smith. He didn't publish a lot, but everything he did put out there deserves to be read more by philosophers. Like this one, with Jed Buchwald, trying to take head-on Kuhn's incommensurability thesis: direct.mit.edu/posc/article...

My own contribution to the George Smith volume is on John Herschel. I trace Herschel's concept of residual phenomena back to work he was doing on physical astronomy, in particular an article he wrote in 1823 for the Encyclopaedia Metropolitana. link.springer.com/chapter/10.1...

I am incredibly honored to be a contributor to this volume. I can't convey here how much George Smith has meant to me as a teacher, collaborator, and friend. Check out the intro to the volume, particularly the end of it, which is on George's teaching.
