There’s a lot of talk on X about translation rates, but I think it comes down to two types of people: those who wait for others to raise their rates, and those who actively work to raise them themselves. Freelance translators are business owners, so it should be the latter.

The rapid advancement in PC performance has been remarkable, and local LLMs are now often preinstalled by default. I believe LLMs are more suitable for translation than NMTs, and as local LLMs become widespread, they will likely take away much of the in-house translation work from us.

ローカル環境LLM(LM Studio/Ollama)を、エクセル関数で利用できるようにするためのアドインソフトウェアを開発しました。自分が使用するために作ったのですが、少し外向きに整えて公開することにしました。生成AIを翻訳の仕事に使いたいけど、守秘義務契約などの理由でクラウド系生成AIには情報入力できず、利用できなかったのですが、ローカルLLMであれば閉じた環境ですから情報漏洩リスクもなく、AIを支援ツールのひとつとして利用しやすくなります。 wildlight.blog/askgai/

翻訳や校正に使えないか…という視点で、いろいろと遊びながら試しているけど、現状はこんなところかなぁ。ローカル環境で軽いLLM使うなら、Gemma-3-12bとdeepseekを使い分ける感じが良いんだろうと考えているところ。

ネガティブチェックという話を、過去にしたことがありますが、仮に使おうと思う商品名やサービス名のネガティブチェックをする際、どの言語で問題となるのか不明なとき、生成ＡＩにネガティブチェックをさせると、確認すべき言語や検証すべき点を教えてくれて、なかなか便利です。

１月に母が亡くなって以来、相続手続きを進めてきたけど、なんとか来月でほとんどの処理が終わりそう。とにかく、時間と金が掛かる、これに尽きるな。自分が亡くなるときは子供たちが同じ負担を強いられるわけで、その準備はしっかりやっといてやらにゃとつくづく思う。

The way you ask a question really makes a difference. If you phrase your question in a way that targets only people who use a specific application and have certain specialized knowledge, the pool of potential respondents becomes very narrow, and it’s hard to get the answers you’re looking for.
