Sorry to give bad advice. As a sorta-creator, I benefit from critical feedback. Even if what I make is ultimately for me. I don't have to agree with/act on what someone says about it. But if someone doesn't like something I make, I'd like to know WHY. I try not to assume antagonism, in any case.

Heck, don't listen to me. I don't want to be the reason you get yelled at! 😉 I hope any feedback you offer doesn't create problems/drama. But folks can't make informed decisions if they're not informed. So it might be worth that risk.

Hey y'all, I don't know the particulars and personalities at issue here. But I recommend sending emails/messages to those podcasts so they'll know why you're not listening anymore. Be diplomatic -- no need to start unnecessary drama. But be honest and precise. They should know your thoughts.

I just listened to this video. You make a good case for using level titles, though I've never had any interest in doing so before. The bit about different Chainmail units using titles, and that same principle applying to monster types, was an a-ha moment for me. 💡

Pick your alignment: Autobot, Decepticon, or independent. Classes are reskinned as functions. * Fighter, dwarf = gunner * Cleric = medic * Ranger, rogue = scout * Elf, magic-user = engineer. ...etc. Spells are reskinned as tech powers/modules. Alt forms have different stats.

CYBERCRAWL An #OSE hack, wherein #Transformers plumb the depths of Cybertron. Some want to recover lost weapons, technology, data, or Energon. Others want to discover the means to save Cybertron... and perhaps learn of their own origins.

I'm unsure how to feel about their departures. On the one hand, interviews and quotes from Crawford and Perkins on their way out come across as them trying to distance themselves from D&D 5.5 and WOTC. But would they be leaving if 5.5 had been the success Hasbro wanted it to be?

Best of all, it'll be free. I'll pay me exactly what my art is worth. Hopefully, people will like the little game I write, and maybe help me fund proper art for it.

At the very beginnings of the hobby, we have really bad art. Lotsa stuff traced or copied from comic books . So that's what I'm gonna do. Do my own bad RPG tracer art of bad RPG tracer art. Bad RPG art inception, obvious for what it is. If I'm lucky, it'll be charming in a pathetic sorta way.

For my mashup #ttrpg setting, I put my feelers out for B&W line #art. No nibbles so far. Just as well. I don't wanna waste anyone's time. Not much money right now, and I foresee more austerity. And I don't want to insult artists by lowballing them. But I have an idea. Probably a bad one.

Listening to this now. 🙂 This is causing me to consider incorporating age into my games, including having certain spells age characters. As well as having a max age, after which resurrection is impossible. Not totally sold on the idea, but it's worth thinking about.

The Terrorkeet @terrorkeet.bsky.social · 31/03/2025
Indeed, I was just chiming in with agreement. 🙂 I'm also with you in not locking character competence behind dice. Only roll if the consequences of failure are significant, or if there's a meaningful chance the character shouldn't succeed. Otherwise, just let characters do what they're good at.

The Terrorkeet @terrorkeet.bsky.social · 31/03/2025
What's the mistake? 🤷‍♂️ Build the narrative around die roll results. Don't craft a narrative and then try to force the dice to conform to it. Emergent play. Embrace it.

I will observe, though, how 5E's primary gameplay loop sends blood-soaked adventurers on merry hops from one murder scene to the next. Not sure how "cozy" that is. 😆 Part of my issue with contemporary D&D is how it's been streamlined, so that setpiece combat is about all that's left.

The Terrorkeet @terrorkeet.bsky.social · 29/03/2025
Semantic diffusion = linguistic drift? 🤔 This is my first exposure to the term "cozy game." No survival elements and cutesy aesthetics aren't mutually exclusive, and these are often seen in the same products. The person that shared your post observed that D&D5 fits either definition. 😁

The Terrorkeet @terrorkeet.bsky.social · 29/03/2025
This is the first time I've heard the term "cozy game", but in either context, you're not wrong about 5E being that. That's not a dig, necessarily. Just an astute observation on your part.

Any artists out there that do black and white fantasy and sci-fi line art? Ideally, the sort of illustrations we saw in "old school" D&D and other RPG books? I'd love to see some. 🙂 #art #illustrations #rpg #osr

I have a great idea for an April fool's episode, @daddyrolleda1.bsky.social . 😆 Review the 2024 PHB and praise its awfulness in glowing language. Wear juggalo makeup. Bonus content is discussion of Mr Bungle, as you sip cocktails of Jägermeister + Faygo. DO IT.

Agreed. In my opinion, Stafford and Chaosium don't get near the recognition they deserve, considering just how foundational they are to our hobby.

Just replying to myself here, 'cuz I don't wanna just echo criticism of DAV's art style. I appreciate the fact that they made a bold aesthetic choice and stuck with it, instead of playing it safe. We'd all have complained if DAV looked like everything else, too, right?

I'm enjoying playing Dragon Age Veilguard. I will opine that they made some... interesting choices when it comes to aesthetics. Some of the environments are stunning, but the outfits? I wish there was more customizability. I do appreciate the "transmog" feature, though. #dav #veilguard

I'm working with the BRP system, which uses percentiles (1-100 range). I'm not building a system from the ground up, here. Just tweaking and modding it. 🙂 Just curious as to what swapping the 1s and 10s places does to probabilities, is all.

A +/-5 on d% is a 25% adjustment; I realize this is approximate, and odds are based on the target percentage the player is attempting to roll under. Using this to avoid a bunch of modifiers.

The Terrorkeet @terrorkeet.bsky.social · 12/03/2025
I'm working on a d% system. * Advantage: roll d%, always count *lower* result as 10s place * Disadvantage: roll d%, always count *higher* result as 10s place (I think Eclipse Phase does something similar.) What does this do to probabilities? #ttrpg #dice #probabilities

But it would be nice if dwarves still had their magic resistance. 🙂 I respect the lore behind the mage class restriction... but that same lore gives dwarves magic resistance, the ability to mine Lyrium safely, etc. The rules should reflect the lore better.

There are valid reasons to leave race out of mechanics. Removes pressure to optimize around race. Faction picks up that mechanical slack, providing bonuses and sometimes drawbacks.
110
The Terrorkeet @terrorkeet.bsky.social · 11/03/2025
Origin (race) is entirely cosmetic, except Dwarves can't be Mages (because lore). No gameplay mechanics are associated with being a dwarf, elf, etc. I have mixed feelings about that. The main impact of race is in dialogue, which where the emphasis should be. #dav

Playing Dark Ages Veilguard. Meet Lizhi, Dwarf Rogue Veiljumper. The Desert Fennec. Hella fun ping-ponging around the battlefield. I *like* the action gameplay and 3P view. The Elf Mage I had looked forward to didn't hit for me. #dav #veilguard #streamofconciousness

Thanks. And I'm not sure what the heck I meant by "cheerleader" in that reply. I think that might should have been "share here." 🙂 (House rule: Posters are allowed to edit comments on Bluesky.)

The number of gold pieces the caster must "burn" (transmute to lead) depends on spell level. It's more economical -- and as importantly, thematic -- to use components. L1 spells: 25g L2 spells: 50g L3 spells: 100g L4 spells: 200g ...et cetera.

Silver has potent supernatural properties, and is strongly attuned to the Moon and to Law. Silver amulets and protect the wearer from Chaos. They might shrug off spells and curses They otherwise would not. Silver weapons grievously wound demons, lycanthropes, undead, and other creations of Chaos.

Gold has magical properties, and GP may be used as a universal spell component during emergencies. However, this is expensive, especially for higher-level spells. Gold used for spellcasting transmutes into an equal amount of lead. Changing lead into gold requires the legendary Philosopher's Stone.

The most notable landmarks are the Mile River to the north (flowing from east to west), and the vast Cypress Bayou to the west. Features tropical rain forests, swamps, occasional volcanic vents, too much humidity, and some nice beaches.

Humanoid neighbors include goblins, orcs, lizard men, bullywugs, and troglodytes. Prominent monsters include dragons, dinos, reptiles, insects of all sizes, hags, trolls, and bizarre lycanthropes. Conflicts are frequent but rarely decisive.

The xenophobic Firethrones are the dominant (but declining) culture. The lawful Cosmos Temple has numerous devotees. Worshipers of Sobek the Gator and Sekhmet the Jaguar grow in number. Barbaric faiths exist in the shadows, including druids, fiend cults, and necromancers.

The most common race in the Flower Peninsula is human. Hardy and paranoid swamp elves thrive in wetland enclaves few others can reach. Families of alchemist gnomes and halfling farmers trade in alcohol and other psychoactives. Few other demihumans think it's worth fighting to live there.
