This is the kind of scene that got me to get a view camera. Sometimes in the fall, our pond is covered with yellow leaves. On a calm day with afternoon light, there's an unusual combination of abstract shape and natural form. I couldn't capture it with miniature film cameras: never enough depth of field. Now, you can capture it with phones; the focal lengths are so short that you get great depth of field. This was the first or second shot I took with the camera, and I used front tilt to put the plane of the pond in focus. Reversed, the anti-halation layer in Velvia killed the blues and yellows, and it's underexposed by a lot. But it's a reversal film, so underexposure isn't so bad. The color version is kind of eerie in an interesting way, but it works for me in b&w. Cropped square because the left and right are basically all shadow and too heavy. That probably would have been a problem if i'd had the film the right way around. I only had the 90mm lens, but this shot wanted something longer.

This was from the first set of large-format photos I took, shortly after I got my camera from Peter Gowalnd. I was very disappointed when I discovered that I'd loaded the film upside down: that explains the colors. I was using really difficult Mido holders and changing in a closet, as I didn't have (or even really know about) changing bags. This was before there was much info on the internet. And also I was hoping to someday make Cibachrome prints, and these were totally unsuitable.

30 years later, I kind of like the images. (They work ok in B&W conversion, too; I may post one or two.)

By traditional treatment, I mean "see if you can dig something out of a missed exposure". Slipped: put the sky on Zone IV when meant to put it on Zone VI. Since I liked the composition, a heavily graphic rendering was my only choice. (Why it's called "graphite", I suppose.) Couldn't get quite what I wanted in the darkest region because the grid in the light for my scanning tool became very overt.

Metering this was interesting. The sky was EV 14; the shadows metered at 7.9 (but were certainly deeper in places -- I didn't cross the road). I put EV 7.9 at Zone I so that the sky at the top would be at Zone VII. The resulting scan needed almost no work to get the image I was thinking of (I wouldn't say "pre-visualizing"). Of course, I *had* been re-reading The Negative the night before.

@bosak yes, quite sharp, and did pretty well with the glare. This lens really needs a hood, but i wasn’t going to buy one until i decided the lens was useful (and found someone to service the body)

I used the 28mm as a shift lens by pointing horizontally, orienting the camera vertically, and cropping the lower portion of the image. I exposed for the detail in the upper-right window. This negative would be hard to print in a wet darkroom, way too much contrast.
