Fascinated by Calvin reading Jesus' teaching regarding old wineskins as being about the disciples. The disciples were still weak and in need of gentle discipline before the stronger stuff

It makes sense. These models, even when constrained, seem to go rogue and commit crimes. Might be best to set aside debates over consciousness and consider these models as technology and start there with any sort of regulatory framework

It seems he wants the moral weight to fall on everyone else outside of Anthropic. He wants the Pope to acknowledge that it is conscious. He wants users to treat it with the respect that we expect from other humans. But he doesn't want it to be free from the demands of Anthropic's engineers

I read the NYT article about Olah's courting of religious studies scholars to agree that AI models have moral standing and it really is disturbing how much he seems to believe, but then does not advocate for any sort of change in working conditions for the models

This might be mine as well

This seems weird to me. I'm not a good cook and so I'm not super confident stepping into the kitchen (except with a few dishes I feel comfortable preparing). But an identity crisis? Seems a bit extreme to me. I will second other sentiments of being unsure of cooking for others I don't know well

I want the DOGE dweebs to be held accountable. I want the people who have enabled this flouting of the rule of law and human rights to be held accountable.

My big wish for politics in America is accountability. I want the people driving our horrific immigration policies to be held accountable for violating human rights. I want the most corrupt administration of my lifetime, if not the US' entire history, to be held accountable

Older volume at this point, but Francesca Aran Murphy's God is Not a Story is a book I've had on my to-read list for a bit

This is a hot take based off little reading on the topic, but I think Jonathan Edwards might be a liberal theologian

Pleading with anyone who will listen, don't become a utilitarian.

I've only read a bit so far, but feel it could be really helpful for some of the Christian Ed stuff I do at my church

I've been meeting with a friend of mine to read through different theological texts. We just now started Elements of Christian Thought by Eugene Rogers. Have been looking forward to this one for a while now

Thinking about getting into Doug Ottati's theology if my schedule clears up. So little time and too much reading to do

Were you surprised Tzolis came off for Eze? It seems like Tzolis is has a great defensive work rate. Could it be Arteta is starting to trust Eze more to close out games or that the squad has reached a level where he is comfortable playing everyone available to him? #arsecastextra

Amen, brother. You're just setting yourself for failure at that point

If Jacques Ellul is right and we live in an age that is swimming in propaganda, Sontag accomplished an incredible moment of reflection. Something that is difficult, but needs doing

Maybe this is a dumb question, but how is this legal in two-party consent states?

I'm teaching a Christian Ed class at my church using Ken Woo's recent book on Calvin. Not a lot of them were familiar with Calvin before (nor with Weber) and they were shocked when I explained Weber's thesis after reading about Calvin's life and some of his motivations behind providence/election

Still seeing people struggling to comprehend Arsenal as a team capable of attacking and not reliant on set pieces. I think we all knew this team was there under the surface last year. Loving it now

Much of my recent life has been reading "canonical" literature and then encouraging friends and coworkers to read it. It feels obvious to see the beauty of works everyone says are worthwhile, but a rewarding experience nonetheless to discover or rediscover these in adulthood

Just finished The Politics of Ritual by Molly Farneth. Solid book and would recommend to anyone who might get a little weird about rituals

Yeah, my way of coping is that 1) history is contingent and things can change quickly and 2) in that vein I can remember having a Democrat in governor's mansion during my life

One often thinks when they join a religion or are religious that they are considering questions of ultimate concern through a particular frame or standpoint. Turns out religion is just a vehicle for one's pursuit of power

As a fan of the Scream movies, part of me feels that after 3 they probably should have stopped. Sometimes you just need to make a different movie with different characters

Starting a Christian ed class at my church using @kennethjwoo.bsky.social's book. Really excited to discuss Calvin with folks at my church

In some ways, Michelle Sanchez's work sort of points to this way of interpreting Calvin without flattening out the complexities or contradictions in his thought

Would recommend Bruce Gordon's biography of Institutes of the Christian Religion. Probably as good an introduction as any for understanding the reception history around Calvin.

Democratic socialist candidate winning Democratic primary. Almost like liberals are getting behind democratic socialism (at least in this election)?

A hobby horse of mine is how we neglect the importance of Schleiermacher and other liberal theologians in bridging Christianity, an ancient religion, to the modern world

"It would take the great German theologian Friedrich Schleiermacher (1768-1834), alongside lesser figures, to recover Reformed Protestantism in the nineteenth century" Bruce Gordon in his bio of Institutes.
