Best Canadian films of 2024? The one that has stayed with me the most is "Universal Language" (Matthew Rankin). So wry, surprising, funny. I definitely didn't see enough Canadian films in 2024 to compile a Top Ten list (I just didn't take that many flights on Air Canada ;-)

I love this gesture that Filip adopts in Kieslowski's Amator - an emblem of his filmmaking obsession. Also a suggestion that mediated viewing takes place even in the absence of the camera itself. One of the film's original poster designs takes a more literal view of the human/camera hybrid.

Sure, 2023 is the centenary of the 16mm film format, but did you remember to celebrate the 112th birthday of the 28mm Pathé Kok? First released in the Netherlands in 1911, it was available on the US market a couple years later (this ad from 1914).
