It seems mundane, but the gravity of such actions are multiplied for him tenfold after what happened to him. Such things feel so viscerally wrong for a person like him, who had happily killed anyone he might've done this with before a thousand times over.

and the vitriol he harbors for Color, who insinuates that Killer is anything but perfectly happy and safe with him. Though he tolerates Killer's flings with those he deems lesser, anything beyond friendship is strictly forbidden, and those who get too close pay for it dearly.

Nightmare's love is a deeply obsessive, vile thing. He would do horrible things to himself and others if it meant Killer would have him. He would sooner die than have Killer leave him, or worse, view him as a thing to be feared, so long as Killer loved him until the day Killer joined him in death.
