Wishing young people grow up to experience a 12 hour work day, 6 days a week until a retirement at 67. How is this funny?

My MIL ironically sent this meme to a group chat on Labor Day weekend. Very unfortunate that the boomers have discovered the 6 7 meme and are using it to wish misery on children. Just wait until they grow up and realize how bad the boomers have made things for younger generations! Hilarious.
A meme set against the background of a beach sent my my mother in law. The text says “Wait until the ‘six seven’ generation finds out the real 6-7. Up at 7. Work til 7. 6 days out of 7. Until 67.”

LLMs are not true artificial intelligence and according to several studies by MIT, using generative AI creates cognitive decline in regular users.

That would be nice. I just think that the lack of regulations on billionaires and how they benefit from unfettered capitalism is what created the circumstances for gen AI and it wouldn’t exist without it.
010
Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
Neither would generative AI. What is your point? You believe that billionaires have a right to scrape everyone else’s data and art for their own profit?

But I’m also curious if this is a pure hypothetical and we can have our pick of good things, what is an example of an ethical use case scenario and why do need generative AI at all?
120
Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
Especially since these models are not very accurate even with such massive data sets and we are already starting to see the predicted model collapse as gen AI begins to poison its own data sets by consuming other AI generated data.
120
Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
Sam Altman has said that these generative AI models wouldn’t work if they hadn’t been able to train on stolen data because of the amount of data they needed to consume so I don’t think they would be possible if they could only train on the data from people willing to sell their uncredited IP.

Also are we talking about LLMs or true AI?

I remember how the way kids fell behind during the brief push for remote learning during the first year of Covid has been used as a cudgel by a lot of the same people glomping onto AI to claim those temporary precautions went TOO FAR, even as they saved numerous lives

The real answer to why should teachers and students be invested in learning is because things suck massively right now and how are you going to fix it unless you understand how these systems work and the history of why they’ve been built that way.

Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
If school districts are invested in a future where quality education is successful and accessible (which they should be), they need to stop listening to business people and gassing up their teachers to keep persevering within a system that is invested in the illiteracy and ignorance of the masses.

At the conclusion, in case this didn’t already seem like a bald-faced grift, Mark said that anyone who was interested could get in line to buy his book right outside the auditorium. The line was a lot longer than it deserved to be.

And it feels like we are never doing enough no matter how hard we work or how many hours we put in because their is nothing we can do on an individual level to counteract the harm perpetuated by the government that does not want to educate the working class or the working poor.

Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
I have sat through enough meetings in different districts to know that when things are tough and funding is low to non-existent, teachers are always told to just work harder, give 110%, level up our game. It is our personal responsibility to make up for the cruelty of the systems we never mention.

Mark’s statements about how US education isn’t failing had a lot of the audience agreeing because when he said that we in America are good at educating people, he wanted the audience to know that “we” referred to educators not our government and that educators are not failing.

Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
With the federal and state governments constantly cutting funding for schools, tearing about federal and state departments of education, letting the private sector control resources, and how we culturally devalue learning and thinking, we are trying to convince school districts that this is fine.
110
Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
One of the things Mark wanted his audience to understand was that we may hear or see on the news that education in the US is failing and that isn’t true. He said that we in the US are pretty good at educating young people.

One much older teacher in front of me was taking notes. She had written down words like “Inspire,” “Integrity,” and “Lifestyles.”

Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Secondly, I don’t think that “living like a Kardashian” where the whole goal is wealth and status is an appropriate ambition. It’s notable that Mark labeled levels of ambition by wealth and status only, not by meaningful impact on a changing world, something he claimed young people care about.
110
Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
First of all, I would say that being able to feed oneself and meet their basic needs is not an ambition or lifestyle choice but a human right, although the US disagrees. Food insecurity is a reality that is facing much of the US right now despite education, employment, or ambition.
110
Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
He described that the difference between a grand ambition and a laid-back ambition is that some people want to live like the Kardashians and other people might just want to be able to feed themselves two meals a day. These are the “lifestyles” that young people care about.
110
Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Mark said that you cannot motivate young people by assuming that they all have grand ambitions. He said that some young people have grand ambitions, some people have moderate ambitions, and some people have what he called “laid-back” ambitions.

omitting that many businesses have been rolling back (gen) AI adoption because it’s neither as efficient nor as cost-effective as the Linked In echo chamber led them to believe and there’s been a massive consumer pushback.
110
Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
He now mentions that this includes people who are 30, 35, 38 years old. At some point during his talk, Mark has a slide about (gen) AI and how it’s impacting young people are their careers. He includes that x% of businesses are set to adopt (gen) AI models by 2027…

Young people respond to integrity, want to feel like they are contributing to meaningful change within a job, and refuse to have their time wasted. This part isn’t necessarily wrong but doesn’t carry a lot of waiter without deeper reflection. Although Mark keeps saying Gen Z and Gen Alpha…

Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
So with the world having changed so so so much, how do you motivate young people, which was at some point redefined as 30 and younger, to keep participating in systems that refuse to change? The answer was simple and Mark encouraged the audience to take notes.
110
Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
I’m sure you could guess that there was no analysis of what that meant, why that shift had occurred and how that shift has been impacted by very low standards of living with the commodification of almost every facet of our existence within a culture that has sold its soul to consumerism.
110
Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
These vague locations of mindset were not explained. It was word salad. Mark said that when students want to know why they should learn something, telling them about how it’s necessary for a career isn’t convincing because young people don’t care about careers anymore, they care about lifestyles.
110
Sad Girl Antics @tenaciousc.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
And you can’t keep talking to young people the same way if you can to inspire them. Most people keep talking to young people like they’re over here when they’re really over here, he gestured, and they’re waiting for you to realize they’re over here and try to meet them where they’re at.

I guess I should give this guy a name. Let’s call him Mark, for example. One of the first things that Mark said was that the world has changed so much. The world has changed so much over the last few decades and even since last year. The world is changing so fast. Wow. How astute.

This middle aged wealthy white man whose only credentials were author and CEO (of what???) who had done hundreds of podcast interviews was given the stage to tell experienced teachers how to inspire young people in the classroom. Young people was defined as 25 and younger, Gen Z and Gen Alpha.

My school district recently hosted their welcome back convocation and their opening speaker has been living in my head rent free. I couldn’t help thinking about how it exemplified exactly how a business-loving neoliberal mindset has American education locked in a death spiral.

I lost enthusiasm for her so fast. I really wish Democratic candidates in Ohio would at least try to be competitive by not alienating their base and losing their support. This is spit in the face of Ohio’s many democratic and left-leaning voters to keep offering us only bigots on our ballots.

A big reason establishment Dems keep losing primaries to DSA aligned challengers is because of shit like this. They are tired of a party that attacks its own base and supporters with so much more fervor than their supposed political opponents.

My mom used to make these cookies during summer when I was little. I haven’t had them in a long time. Yesterday I made them for the Symbols of Peace and Resistance Picnic. I love how they turned out.
