If there's one thing that stands out about Fliss, it's her incredibly consistent silhouette,

To be fair, that character is definitely horny for the idea of purging heresy and preserving the purity of human flesh, at the very least in a figurative way. But yes, I do like how it's not just "the sex sin," but the overwhelming desire to spread yourself out into the world, in whatever sense.

I'm still thinking about how I got pranked by thinking Murder on the WARP Express was going to be an Agatha Christie reference, only to find out the actual murder mystery is the intervallo that precedes it, even namedropping Agatha Christie to let you know the goof is intentional.

It's really good; there was a period where I was casually speedrunning it for fun. I hope you check it out! And I'll have to check out Stardust Demon in return!

It's an extremely straight-forward plot, but it works. It takes a little while for the story to give you a reason to want to climb, climb, climb your way out of the hole you start in, but once it does, I like the weight it carries. Also never has getting more inventory space felt so good.

I also really like that the entire game takes place in a vertical, underground bunker, with you climbing from the very bottom to the very top. You are constantly reminded of your depth, giving you a constant sense of progression (which you can directly compare against your doomsday clock.)

(There is a safety valve: you can, at any point, start a New Game+, carrying over some of your items, zenny and unspent EXP, resetting your timer in the process. It's a linear game with the Earthbound "trivial fights are skipped" mechanic, so you get back to where you were quickly.)

Which means they can and will throw overly-difficult fights at you, and leave it to you to decide whether you're going to throw your dwindling supply of meds beating it normally, or burn away a big chunk of your doomsday timer cheesing it. You can't get that kind of tension without evil mechanics.
