our jerk cat woke me up before five and it was single digit temperatures. i really did not want to go for a run today, but it turned out to be a beautiful morning and i had a lovely time. there is a lesson here which i will absolutely not learn

your hostess, in a spaghetti-strap gold dress with a black floral print and black kitten-heel strappy slingbacks same, but from the back, showing off how good her butt looks in the dress, and also that said dress is held together by three long ties which were very difficult for her to knot behind her back, but to be a woman is to perform

The web project I've been working on for the last month is live! The annual independent Video Store Day has been running for 16 years, and I was glad I could pitch in to build their new website that promotes the event and lets stores sign up to participate! You can see it at videostoreday.com

it feels so good to be able to go for a longer run along the lakefront again, it's been so long since i was well enough to do this
looking out over lake ontario from the shore; it's a hazy morning and beyond the horizontal line of the concrete breakwater, the lake fades seamlessly into the sky, so it's impossible to tell where one ends and the other begins the martin goodman trail, an asphalt mixed-use bike/running/walking path that runs through trees and parkland along toronto's lakefront

the toronto trans memorial
the toronto trans memorial, a makeshift collection of names written in chalk and paint and marker, surrounding the trans symbol, drawn on a yellow brick wall at the back of a city park, across from the much more permanent AIDS memorial. the city has erased it at least twice.

the training plan for this race was insane, if not outright disordered. 100+ km weeks, four weeks at 130km, no days off, only 10km+ "recovery runs", many days with multiple runs, a mid-week "medium long" 20km run that i had to wake up at 4:30am for to do before work, etc
a calendar of completed running workouts; there's no week lower than 113km, and a few approaching 130km.

this is an incredible paragraph, from JP Brammer on the pantone colour of the year: johnpaulbrammer.substack.com/p/cloud-danc...
As you can see, Cloud Dancer is the color of a MacBook charger in its waning days of service. The color of bad news delivered with bureaucratic indifference. The color of congressional insider trading. The color of a person’s thoughts while ignoring war. The color of an email from an exec proposing a live-action remake. The color of the popcorn ceiling in the hotel room of said exec’s extramarital affair. It is the color of the word “exec.” It is the color of a slightly crooked command hook in a college dorm. The color of the humming sound that an overhead fluorescent light makes in a disillusioning job. The color of the familial obligation that pushes you to begrudgingly accept a call. The color of ChatGPT’s blood if ChatGPT could bleed, if ChatGPT could be slashed with a sashimi knife and if milky fluid could come gushing out of its jugular. It is not, as some are saying, the color of a white person. It’s a decidedly nonhuman, anti-human hue. It is, however, the color of the discussions on the subject, as well as the color of the awareness of the context from which those discussions inevitably spring. It is the color of offending by trying very hard not to offend. It is the color of a corporate apology. It is the color of a machine saying, “I hear you.” When the decision was revealed, I knew I would never own a house.

i love reading margaret, and this one really spoke to me, maybe you would like to read it too
I think everyone I know has the fantasy of destroying their phone or their computer. Everyone has a different but oddly specific way they’d do it: smash it with a rock, throw it off a skyscraper, set it on the train tracks. Myself, and I know this isn’t environmentally friendly, I imagine myself on a tiny sailboat somewhere on the ocean (even though I don’t sail) and I cast my devices overboard. I don’t want to just destroy my phone or my computer, I want to sacrifice these machines to the gods of the ocean.

We have these thoughts, but we’re mistaken about why we have them. Most of the time, when I’m imagining the depths swallowing my phone, I think it’s because I want to disappear from society, that I want to leave the world of people behind. I want to set the computer on the tracks and then walk into the woods, forever.
