Twelve years ago today, Kate Bush took to the stage for the first night of her Before the Dawn residency. The show was a masterpiece of immersive musical theatre. It remains the best concert I have ever been to and I doubt if I'll ever see anything to surpass it.

19th anniversary of the death of Tony Wilson. It would be difficult to overstate his importance in popular culture. From the first TV appearance of Sex Pistols to financing the first Joy Division album. His coffin was FAC 501 which became the final entry in Factory's eccentric classification system.

"In Edge Of Darkness there is no solely human collective capacity for new life. . . What changes and can change others in Edge Of Darkness is more-than-human; a goddess and black flowers. Both are dangerous allies for humans." From an essay by Phil Smith in the new issue of Undefined Boundary.

Temporal Boundary @temporalboundary.bsky.social · 18/06/2026

"The homunculi. . . embody a sense of magical possibility that can be found in the midst of even a sad and lonely life. The numbing imperatives of a minimum wage job may be unavoidable but the magic of DIY alchemy is something graspable by anyone."

I'm sorting through the contents of an old filing cabinet. Moonshine was edited by Kate Westwood who also ran a magick supplies shop in Birmingham. The Cauldron was a magazine of traditional Witchcraft edited by Michael Howard. This issue contains an obituary for Andrew Chumbley.

I'm sorting through an old filing cabinet that I haven't looked at for years. I thought I'd share some of the magazines that I'm finding. This one is Fringecore, an American magazine which must surely be the only publication that would include Sadie Plant and Michael Moynihan in the same issue!

From Albion's Eco-eerie by Phil Smith. "Hobgoblinology adds something where I think ‘folk horror’ and ‘hauntology’ are sometimes lacking in either generosity or sticky materiality. I owe much to hauntology. . . .But it concedes too much to the cultural ghost and not enough to the ecological host."

Small Prophets: worried it wouldn't compare to Detectorists but was a wonderful 1st episode. The early Lady Bracknell reference won me over + I love Pearce Quigley's character. Eccentric but downbeat with a lot of inner richness. Great acting, a quirky script, and a genuinely engrossing plot.
