Bookmail Friday! Happy to add to my ever growing collection, this time featuring selections from @aardvarkbookclub.bsky.social. (They have hit it out of the park this year! I keep finding myself going back to pick up selections I missed.) Can’t wait to get started on these beauties. #Booksky 💙📚

This picture features three books from the Aardvark Book Club set on top of and in front of its box. The three books are described as follows:

This month’s selection for me was “Julie Chan Is Dead” by Liann Zhang. The cover is black, with the lower half featuring a graphic design of identical blond haired women staring at identical red phones, except for the lone woman in the middle with black hair, holding up her phone, looking out at you, the potential reader.
The second book is a selection from April called “Dissolution “ by Nicholas Binge. This is a completely abstract cover in which the title and author’s name are on different “steps” that look almost like an episode of STNG (I’m thinking from S1 where they are trying to stop time from changing on that one planet?). I digress. Blue sky and white clouds fill the background and either blue lightening or water fills the stairs. Is it up to your interpretation? Who knows.
Book 3 is “The Strange Case of Jane O.” by Karen Thompson Walker. This cover is a dreamy combination of red, orange, green, purple and blue colors with a faded picture of a woman who has a haunted look, particularly in her eyes, making up the entirety of the cover.

How to spend a Friday evening @aardvarkbookclub.bsky.social edition: Receive April books. Start April book you “took a chance on.” Finish said book a mere 2.5 hrs later after devouring it. Somehow feel better about… all that stuff happening out there. 5 stars. Would recommend. 🖋️📚💙 #booksky

Let’s talk about how excited I am for this one, esp after getting my paperback copy of The Tainted Cup ruined at the beach. What better excuse do I have to buy a new copy PLUS the SEQUEL? The Tainted Cup is THE BEST BOOK I’ve read so far this year (it’s young, I know)! 💙📚 ⚡️📚 🪐📚

I found these three books in an antique store. “Dr. Whitney’s Secretary” by Dorothy Pierce Walker caught my eye. I read it as a precocious 11 year old after going through the books on my grandmother’s shelves. (Probably not a book for an 11 y.o.) Has anyone on #booksky read any of these? 💙📚

A picture of three older books.
“Portrait of Love” by Margaret Nichols and “Dr. Whitney’s Secretary” by Dorothy Pierce Walker were published in 1944. “Beauty’s Daughter” by Kathleen Norris was published in 1934.

This woman is brilliant. I love her writing and how she writes from Point A ➡️ B ➡️ C and then connects all the dots. Saddest of all: “A year ago today, on February 16, 2024, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny died at the hands of Russian authorities in the prison where he was being held…”

So, what’s your idea of a fun Saturday night? Migraine treatment? Me too! I can’t read a thing. Or eat. Or watch. It’s great. Where are my fellow migraineurs? No recommendations. No Excedrin Migraine. #MigraineChat #migraine

Me. Plus a Relivion device (migraine treatment not usually covered by insurance) that is probably why I’m smiling. Maybe the electrical pulses are forcing me to smile. (I’M KIDDING. It’s not that strong. If you have a migraine NOTHING is THAT strong.)

Green light provided by Allay. Also not covered by insurance.

Green light. Again. Sitting atop dystopian book that may or may not be my life? I dunno.
