People think it's easiest to meet your neighbors if you have dogs, but I'm continually meeting people who make a point of coming down my street b/c they're fans of my cats. One dad comes by with his two little girls, who are absolutely determined to pet all of the cats (cats have not cooperated yet)

We passed the drug test trial and his diabetes is in remission! I will have to give him the meds every day in his food & he’s still on his last chapter. This intervention just keeps him healthier for the time we have left together. But great news on the Blessing of the Animals day.

Not out of the woods yet. But my guy is doing well so far on a trial run of diabetes meds. Vet just recorded a 50% drop in his sucrose and ketone levels. 5 more days left in the trial, holding my breath for further good results.

Talking w/the vet about what options we have to give him the best quality of life possible in the limited time we have left together. She & her staff are as heartbroken, b/c everybody loves this guy. I feel like Lily in The Sheep Detectives, when she's begging Sebastian to turn into a cloud.

Besides the heartbreak of having to discuss end of life planning with the veterinarian for who is the best cat I will ever know is realizing that none of the doctors who treated my mom in her last year even brought up the topic. Thankful to the vet because I clearly have unresolved grief.

Rescued this abandoned kitten 14 years ago and had a hard conversation yesterday with the vet about his health & end of life options. Don‘t want him to suffer but not ready yet to say goodbye.

Another bummer aspect of aging pets is that now that my best little guy is old & has arthritis, he can no longer terrorize the local rodent population. Literally drove them off the property. But now that he’s old, they’re coming back & just learned there’s an infestation in attic which will be 💰 💸

Sweet little discovery that the office where I go for orthotics has a birdhouse set up next to the outdoor employee break area. No birds were home, but now I'm curious if it was the med staff or the property owners who set it up.

Had dinner last night at a restaurant that's run out of a Gold Rush era lodge for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. IOOF still own the building & because the membership is perpetually dwindling, rent include use of their custom place settings.

Recession indicator, previous years we had sheep and goats doing the grazing, this year it's just the goats. Sounds of bleating always make me think of my grandma, who grew up on a sheep ranch & would correct me if I used the word kids "You're not a goat."

My best buddy turned up on the stoop in early Summer 2012 as a scrawny, flea bitten, & scared 6 month old kitten. Spent a lot of time hanging out & getting him to trust me. Now he's 14 years old w/arthritis & the routine now is that I can't go to sleep until we've cuddled. I appreciate every minute.

Because I am the type of person who has to make up backstories & lore for my pets, I have decided that the backyard cat is passed out asleep all day bc she’s working doing overnight laundry orders (and ironing, which her poor little paws are so cramped).

the Denis O'Shea Memorial Fund provides funding which provides cultural enrichment programs for high school students in a low income school district during Summer break. The fund is in honor of high school teacher, Denis O'Shea who passed away from brain cancer, and aims to provide students with the cultural enrichment experiences he enjoyed as a high school student in New York City. Denis felt strongly about helping his students have the same type of experiences and to date, the program has funded trips to San Francisco to tour museums and a summer bridge program for Afghani teenagers adjusting to life in California. Denis had to give up teaching during the last 6 months of his life due to cancer & his wife (who was also one of my mom's rehab therapists during the last year of her life) established the fund to help his students & the kids he loved working with so much.

Got to see Chiharu Shiota's work in person for the 1st time thanks to work trip to the SF office. Felt pretty emotional seeing her pieces about going through cancer treatment given my sister currently being in radiation therapy after a pretty brutal surgery. exhibitions.asianart.org/exhibitions/...

Absolutely heartbroken that one of my favorite eccentric houses, which had a great Halloween display and a rotating cast of mannequins to greet passerbys has been sold. There's now a Lamborghini , Ferrari, and BMW parked in the driveway, which signals that the all soul & fun in that house is gone.

If you look closely, you can see the red dress on one of the rotating cast of mannequins behind the front gate. The owner rotated them during the year in different outfits and went all out during Halloween. Huge bummer that it looks like some rich assholes bought the property.

Couldn’t take photos but got to tour the Wildlife Rescue center this afternoon. Same place that took in the orphan baby squirrel I rescued last year. Lotta critters there being rehabbed, including a Mama Possum, her joeys, ducks, geese, a hummingbird, & squirrels.

Finally managed to get this guy in for his monthly arthritis shot after 4 hours of Looney Tunes pursuiy. He even managed to convince another human to open the back door while I was getting the crate.

When one of the cats isn't getting the attention she wants bc the humans are busy, she will sabotage things so that the all attention is redirected to her. She’s unplugged a land line bc someone was on a 45+ minute call. Just knocked a teapot off of the counter bc she wants someone to play w/her.
