Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 22/09/2026The "topper" is sort of an awkward compromise. It's based on Matt Jefferies' simplified diagrams for the ship, which showed the impulse outlets as being flush with the top of the saucer. I like that small interruption of the circular shape. Haven't quite found an elegant synthesis yet, though. 231
Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I've always felt that the Franz Joseph mono-nacelle ships had ungainly proportions (though were still charming). I think putting some volume above the saucer does a lot to balance it, and a big radome/sensor pallet was a natural fit for a scout-type ship. 180
Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 22/09/2026The most drastic departure is how much I've beefed up the neck. The defining angles are the same as the original, but I've thickened and tapered it to imply a keel structure running through the primary and secondary hulls. Also proportioned the secondary hull a bit more like TMP's Enterprise. (2/2) 2423
Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 22/09/2026lol, was recently wondering if anyone had caught that! I've been occasionally chipping away at it the last couple years, sort of working out my own "Adjusted TOS" style. Trying hard to stay true to the spirit of the original while adding just a touch more visible structure. (1/2) 3585
Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 21/09/2026It's a corvette; at least 120m including the main antenna. (In setting, it's about as small as FTL-capable ships get with the exception of some rapid couriers) 110

Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Vermilion Hope stuff from a little while back: figuring out some more realized construction and articulation for the TAC ARMs' inner frames. I'm especially pleased by the ab crunch and shoulder extension both articulating from the same axis. 431482
Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 23/07/2026I'm glad the fantastical side of it still comes through. It's important, and I sometimes worry that it gets eroded by my desire for believable materials and construction. 000
Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Yeah! The daggers have been floating around as canon for something like a decade, but they've barely ever appeared in polished/posted artwork (partly because I never felt like I could find an elegant place to stow them). 110
Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 22/07/2026Not exactly a skinsuit in this case, as it has some serious thickness. Note how thick the neck is compared to the bare head in image 2. The outwardly muscular appearance is mostly due to the suit's power assist layer, rather than the wearer. 120

Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 04/07/2026A little of both. It's commonly believed that Karici (humans) and Meereni share a common ancestor (because duh, look at them), but curiously their genetics are congruent to their respective homeworlds and not to eachother, which has prevented the connection from being scientifically proven. 010

Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 02/04/2026It's a coilgun, so it's ballistic. The mags contain both the projectiles, and a battery with enough power to impel their contents. The gun has its own internal power reserve to account for any shortfall. 130

Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 30/03/2026A big part of what I've grown to appreciate about the V over the years is that it's full of small "ugly" nuances (which are fun to interpret!). It gives an impression of "it's shaped like that because of rigorous testing and simulation" that makes it feel credible to me as military hardware. 060
Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 02/03/2026Note: "Captain" is not a rank, but a title which exclusively refers to a ship's designated commander. #art #sketch #characterdesign 239671
Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 27/02/2026Certainly more developed than gesture, but the principle of "intentional limitation" translates. (and just like working on paper, going too small can also cause problems. Too-low pixel density, or the texture of the paper hurting readability) 010
Tekka Croe @tekkacroe.bsky.social · 26/02/2026Mainly it just places a hard constraint (pixel density) on how fine the details can get, which I find makes it easier to say "good enough" and not get bogged down in refinements. 270
