Even in the mid-60s the Master knew some #writers wrote to be read by the many, and some writers wrote to be appreciated by the few - he embraced being in the latter camp (and counted himself fortunate that his first #novel was being published at all)

I've been impressed by the NUML English department reaching out to scholars from across the globe to give lectures and lead seminars - my experience is that American students rarely have the opportunity to interact with writers and scholars beyond the U.S.'s borders

I've spent the last several months with #Pushkin, his classic novel in verse Eugene Onegin, especially #Nabokov's translation and then all 1000 pages of his notes and commentary - and it has been an amazing intellectual and spiritual journey. Highly recommend.

I published a chapbook-style literary journal from 1997-2004, A Summer's Reading - over the weekend I heard from a contributor to No. 5 wondering if I still had a copy that I could send her. I have a few archival copies. (The title of the journal was inspired by the classic Bernard Malamud story.)
