FSU football since September 3, 2023 is wild. Just an absolute free fall from the clouds since that Georgia bowl game.

Few things break the online/offline wall. This does.

I think there’s a real disconnect between normal people and the kind of psychopaths who will want to see this. It’s a fundamental thing that exposes how hyper online and insane this administration and its most ardent supporters are to the rest of the country.

i think in the final analysis a lot more of the straight up corruption is going to have run through DoD than now seems apparent (it's where they keep a lot of the money)

Simply: Decent people don’t want to watch these things. Hegseth and Trump can’t even comprehend that.

tedgehring.bsky.social @tedgehring.bsky.social · 6h
Hegseth may have been over his skis here. Yes, Trump may be the kind of person who would watch. But Vance isn’t going to be alone in seeing that even if you want to do this and watch you should understand why it’s such a bad idea.

The walk back will suggest he never said everyone could see it, etc. And they will stream it selectively or not at all.

I suspect it would be a violent, graphic half a minute or less. And maybe I’m wrong, but I suspect they will conclude it’s not worth it for that.

They are not going to want to risk him dying defiantly. So no sound. And probably won’t show his face.

One reason is: Hasan is in a wheelchair. They’re not going to want to show him being shot in that or moved from that.

tedgehring.bsky.social @tedgehring.bsky.social · 7h
For a number of reasons, I’m skeptical they’re actually going to do this livestream. And I suspect it will move to “you overreacted over nothing.”

This is petty and least important aspect of this but: I reported on this years ago and the trump campaign falsely denied the reporting, and now via Hegseth they’re just doing it. Monstrous

It kind of tracks a certain elite right wing mindset that we exist to breed. Being parents isn’t as important as making sure we don’t go extinct or something.

Don't know why people report stuff like this instead of just asking "your company is one of the biggest AI users now. How many of your staff moved from 5 day weeks to 3 day weeks?"

I wish more shelters did this. It’s not a home. But getting out like this mitigates a lot of the damage the shelter environment does and makes dogs easier to adopt. Days and days of never leaving the kennel messed them up badly.

I think it was Evelyn Waugh who said something to the effect that “if you think I’m bad now, imagine if I didn’t believe!” I don’t know if that was true for him. But it’s increasingly clear a popular form of Christianity is antinomianism where belief is treated as a license to sin.

Collins might be a special kind of bad. But this is what moral authority looks like. And we’ve largely lost it. Hopefully this motivates the party.

I’m using “we” specifically because we are a democracy. Our constitution and our voters spit this government out. We can’t as a country claim the good without owning this collectively.

tedgehring.bsky.social @tedgehring.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
And there’s not really an end in sight. No point where you could say you think there’s a line out there we won’t cross.

With some slight pauses the country has deteriorated since 2016. Occasionally with great leaps. Then some small steps back to normalcy. But it’s degenerating rapidly now. Every day, increasingly.

My related thought is what is says about us collectively that this could happen. Because it does say something, even if you’re personally against it.

I won’t say that there weren’t attacks on what you might call conventional morality. But the supporters of that morality did as much damage or more.

Had anyone said before Nov 2024 that Trump would bring back public executions I have a pretty good idea how that claim would have been received. The actual public executions will get a shrug.
