Trump is shaking down allies whilst Putin wants US influence diminished in Europe which Trump is handing to him on a plate. Every US president wants Europe to up its own defence, and Europe is waking up to that after Ukraine, they're next, better to arm Ukraine to the teeth which remains the case.
