This is truly exciting. One of the big critiques of Dallas’s local news coverage is that we only have one daily newspaper. But we used to have two. In the 90s, the Dallas Morning News bought and closed the Dallas Times Herald. There has never been a searchable online archive of the Times Herald […]

@Iconfactory I'm 99% certain that this is Apple's bug, but I figured you'd want to know: I just installed Wallaroo on my MacBook Pro with Golden Gate. I clicked the "Set Wallpaper" button and saw the dialog with the "Install Shortcut" button. I clicked that […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

@lproven Yes. I also would like anecdotes on what it's like to live with this configuration for a while. I have tried doing this a few times, but end up reverting back to menu bars in windows because the application support is inconsistent.

Ok, I just looked at the email more closely. I know I definitely didn't sign up for this because it's coming to an email address I don't use. (I have it forwarded to my main mailbox.) It started coming sometime last week. I'm unsubscribing on principle.

So, I stared getting a newsletter called “Texas Flyover”. I didnt sign up for it. Any of my #Dallas or #Texas followers get this too? Who’s behind it? Is it a legit news source trying to bootstrap, or something nefarious?

Today is about cleaning my office (not my computer). Yesterday was my last day with $DAY_JOB, where I worked from home most days. Monday, I start a new job where I will be going to an office most days, so this feels like a good opportunity to clean and restructure my space around fun computing.

`brew list --installed-on-request | wc` tells me I have 184 packages installed not including dependencies. I probably need to clean this up anyway. But this isn't the project I wanted to work on today. At least I know I have a path forward that doesn't involve replacing a perfectly fine […]

Wow, the latest release of MacPorts (released 4 days ago) has an installer for 10.5 Leopard!

Ted C. Howard @tedchoward.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 29/08/2026

Maybe I need to switch to MacPorts? I can't find where they document which OS versions they support, but their “builders” page lists configs that go back to 10.6 32-bit. So maybe this is a better solution. build.macports.org/builders

So it looks like homebrew decided to deprecate my computer (a 2017 iMac Pro) because the OS it runs (macOS 15 Sequoia) was released **almost** 2 years ago! I understand dropping support for older OS versions, but this seems really aggressive.

An MVNO just resells access to the big networks, right? Shouldn’t it be cheaper to “go direct”?

I’m paying $78/month per line for 5G service from AT&T. Visible has 1 year of service for $225. So for less than 3 months at the current rate, I get 12 months. Is there a catch?

Today was a good day. I stayed on top of my pain medication, and it worked. The worst part of the recovery so far is shoulder pain caused by leftover gas from the laparoscopy. It hurts when I lie down, so I’m sleeping in the recliner. Hopefully that goes away soon.
