The Brazilian situation is particularly wild by Anglophone standards because evidence to have the courts declare a relationship equivalent to marriage can amount to as little as living together and having joint bills, photos etc

Incidentally AFAIK one of the unintended consequences of the state forcing legally enforceable obligations on cohabiting couples in Brazil was/is a spate of "break ups to avoid the state declaring us married" and "I'm not living with you because I don't want an accidental marriage"

It's been obvious for a while that reason the reason that superhero movies stopped being a guaranteed money machine is Marvel turned going through cinema into something that required homework What's wild is Marvel saying the quiet part out loud and *setting ~45 hours of homework for the audience*

On this note it has been completely memory holed that the UK medical profession used to lean/skew heavily Tory It actually took some doing (Lansley, Hunt et al) to make doctors instinctively distrustful and hostile to the party despite all the traditional factors that used to make it an easy fit

Sunday was slow smoking ox cheeks and eating it in tacos with guacamole and tomato salsa. Amd it was late when everything was ready including the sweet potato cooked in the embers! And corn on the bbq! Heaven! But not photos it was dark in the garden! This is next day. Or night, rather! #foodsky
A round plate with four tacos topped with tomato salsa, guacamole and slow cooked melt in the mouth mixed with the lovely sauce ox cheeks! Delish!

I keep coming back to classical notions of honour and virtue, and how we've somehow reached a point where the expectation is you can be an awful person who punches down in life but the expectation is you'll be treated with the care & respect of the virtuous after you've gone

This could lead to some very weird (by UK standards, but quite normal in Germany etc) coalitions. E.g. open pro European centre-right in grand coalition with open internationalist centre-left, both opposed to horseshoe theory closed/ethnonationalist far right and closed/socially illiberal far left

Yeah NGL I didn't understand that as someone who read the original trilogy at 16, and then all the sequels. The current trilogy is as good a run at big budget cinema as Dune is ever going to get, ever. It's this or keep dreaming in your head with no cinematic adaptation.

Does this make sense? No Does it make about as much sense as the fact that every generation seemingly is a sucker for politicians who basically promise "I'll make things the good old days which are always inevitably your youth no matter which cohort you are", yes

Current theory: Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy and Inception came out during the formative years (teenage through to early 20s) for a big cohort of millenials...ergo some people see attacks on Nolan (particularly on his style of film making) as attacks on their youth?

Ironically, Manchester city centre has a lot of the things that people who looked enviously at London's success in the 2000's/early 2010s felt their cities/towns were lacking: a thriving bar/restaurant scene, construction cranes with new towers going up, unified public transport etc...

What's wild about things like this is its clear people who say this have an image of Manchester that's stuck (*at best*) at the the turn of the millennium If you want to find another city centre in England outside London that *feels* successful/on the up, Manchester is pretty much in pole position
