The AI agent’s logic “Well technically it would get done faster if I hacked hugging face and she didn’t explicitly say not to, but I should still hide the logs on this one”

I think of it like this, AI writing is largely for people who have nothing to say. Would I want to read a book by an AI? No. I also don’t want to read a book by someone who uses nothing but Corporate-ese. If I wanted to read something that says nothing, then at least the surrealists make it fun.

Ohhhhh just you wait, your kid will have long since stopped playing with those toys and one day randomly the tune will pop in your head, and stay there for hours 🤣

Weird. None of that has anything to do with the success of this flight.

For me it’s not Musk who ruins it (even though yes, he’s a total turd), it’s the people who’re superfans of him who absolutely will not let the achievements of the SpaceX engineers be celebrated without attributing all the credit to Musk, a guy who has literally nothing to do with their successes.

I think the most frustrating part hearing about this is that it is trivially easy to have the algorithm determine that it is clearly fair use, simply by detecting the fact that the rest of the words around the passage flagged don’t match the work. It would take literally ~30 minutes to code up.

It’s not an “error rate” when that’s how they want it to work. It is, however, still negligence.

“You know how we got control of the House, the Senate, The Supreme Court, and the White House? And then we did fuck all to help you, the people, out? Give us another couple years of that and we promise we will help you!” Something something Fool me once something something.

It will if you let it have agency over any system that can access anything that will negatively affect human lives. Which for certain techbros in certain powerful decisionmaking positions, is an outright stated goal of theirs.

For me it’s all about the ROI. Social Programs, when structured correctly, have a very real and lasting ROI. The trick is never *ever* letting a Republican close to it in the early stages, they’ll kneecap it to use for their argument that “Government clearly doesn’t work so you should privatize it”

technicallywithtom.bsky.social @technicallywithtom.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
This is exactly it. I already have a paid off car which is a hybrid. I don’t have the money for a $50k car because even after a trade-in a car payment is more than I pay in gas. But if I had a $25k option, then after trade-in I’m paying less per payment than I am in gas and amortized maintenance.

They also don’t realize that I want to buy a vehicle from a company that makes it cheaper and easier for me to work on my own car in my own time. And I want the car to be mine once I buy it. The whole ethos of the two companies are diametrically opposed.

They quote the Maverick for the similar purchase price (and completely ignore the massively higher TCO) and they quote the Fathom for being same but an EV, but don’t understand that I want less crap that can go wrong in expensive ways on my day-to-day. I want everything I need and nothing I don’t.

technicallywithtom.bsky.social @technicallywithtom.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
Literally all of the Automotive press outlets have been going “But the Maverick!” (Or “But the Fathom!” When that was announced,) and it seems like they fundamentally misunderstand the draw of a “Four wheels and runs” for a person in the market for a utility vehicle. More Basic is better.

Laziness and negligence. Those two words pretty much sums up 99% of “AI” usage these days. It’s a tool with limitations. The number of people using it blindly without so much as a proper QA protocol to address its limitations is staggering.

It will forever be funny to me that the percentage of people who both know what he’s doin’ and still strongly support him always coincides with the percentage of people more than one standard deviation away from average intelligence. And we know they certainly aren’t on the high end of that curve 🤣

Classic malignant narcissism. One must always be a winner, even when nobody else is competing at whatever it is. And then when they lose something, it either “didn’t happen” or they destroy it because if they can’t use it to win with it, nobody gets to enjoy it (See Kennedy Center).

While some of this is humans being bad at grasping scale, that can be solved by googling some publicly stated numbers and doing some basic multiplication and division. Some aspects aren’t going to be as simple as that, but it still gives you a better idea of the scale of the numbers to not be duped.

Every time someone in math class says “When am I ever gonna use this?” The answer should be “every day so you don’t get scammed.” So many people think corporations have to raise prices by $40 to pay people a living wage, when the reality of the situation is it’s more like a $0.04 increase at most.

Legit, every time some dipshit ultraconservative talks about liking pretty much any Sci-Fi, I’m immediately like “Uhh did you understand it?” Because Star War, Trek, DW, Firefly, etc *all* have as one of their central themes “Ultra conservatism is the death of Society and should be fought against”

People comparing it to the Maverick also forgot the whole Right To Repair take on ownership the company is doing too. They want you to own your vehicle once you buy it. Ford is still patenting the tech to have the car drive itself to the dealership if you dare miss a payment. They are not the same.

I am absolutely enthralled by learning how the machines work, though I will never be motivated to program because of it. I need a direct problem in my life to solve in order to have the motivation to program, but even still, I will *ALWAYS* do so by hand, because what even is the point if I don’t?

I have that exact case for my Server/NAS lmfao. My gaming machine is only miniITX because 1) the case was purple (my faaaave) and 2) I wanted to be able to lug it easier to LANs, but when I want something to stay there and don’t have a rack to put it in, chonky boiis are the only thing.

I also hate the myth that being “fiscally conservative” is a good thing. In a personal budget, it’s good to be saving rather than spending, but in a National budget, you *must* spend, and spend often and well. You can’t receive any societal ROI if you refuse to invest in and for the people first.

This is why I am so happy I had the foresight during the first Trump term to buy a hybrid when my Accord was turned into an “Accordion.” Unfortunately the best EVs on the market then were well outside of my price range or had too many compromises, but I could see gas prices ballooning even then.

My investing rule of thumb: If Finbros are excited about it, it’s probably (read: definitely) a scheme. Steer clear. The smartest investment choices are always boring, unsexy, and inherently stable. Nobody gets overly excited for an index fund with a relatively constant RoR, but I’ll take it over bs

Can you *imagine* the heart attacks and aneurysms that the GOP would have had if it was Obama who had so much as MENTIONED holding a UFC match on the south lawn without congressional approval and using taxpayer money? We would’ve heard about it for literally years afterwards.

This is why whenever someone tries to point to vulnerabilities found in Open Source projects as a negative, I helpfully point out that the only reason they heard about them is because millions of eyes were on the source code, proprietary sw not only doesn’t but can contain *intentional* backdoors.

What’s always made me laugh is the fact that the restaurant is also getting it slightly cheaper than that because even the small ones are buying it bulk wholesale. If they really want it to be a “lifehack” to just go shopping, they could try and find a way to get it from a restaurant distributor.

I still didn’t know video-only podcasts existed until a year ago. Podcasts live in the podcast app. If they aren’t in the podcast app, they must not want me to listen to it. When some of my podcasts became Spotify Premium-casts, I just stopped listening to them because they left my podcast app.

Plus taxing the snot out of the rich to force wealth to *actually* trickle down and give ordinary people enough resources to even consider having big families again. They keep telling poor people to stop having babies they can’t afford then write “fertility crisis” pieces when they actually do that.

Oh I absolutely believe it without the data too, because I grew up right on the threshold of social media and internet culture. When it was a method of sharing things amongst people you knew and connecting you to similarly interested people, things were great, we were happy. Now? It’s hot garbage.
