Unemployment is a choice our society makes because it gives the employers leverage to maximize profit but that doesn't translate to society being better because of it. In fact it's held back by profit maximization. To change this we'll need workers/the people at large to have the economic power.

Just look around: A housing shortage, crime, pollution; we need better schools and parks. Whatever our needs, they require work,. And as long as we have unsatisfied needs, there's work to be done.

So ask yourself, what kind of world has work but no jobs. It's a world where work is not related to satisfying our needs. A world where work is only related to satisfying the profit needs of business.

This country was not built by the huge corporations and government bureaucracies, it was built by people who work. And, it is working people who should control the work to be done. Yet, as long as employment is tied to somebody else's profits, the work won't get done."

This is what happens at the end of capitalism. Capitalists aren't interested in the wellbeing of humanity or self actualization for all people, they only care about turning utility into money as cheap as possible. People suffering just means that they have additional leverage to get labor on sale.

I've been really vibing with folk music lately. Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger are great and I also have really been enjoying a lot of Jesse Welles' stuff. Definitely an underrated genre with a great history of anti fascism and pro worker themes paired with a yearning for a better world in general.

I have a lot of questions because I love coops. How would a collective scale? Would it form into something similar to a sociocratic organization or would it remain a simple direct democracy for company wide decisions and have elected managers for specific domains and scope levels?

Sociocracy is a governance system that creates decentralized domain specific groups that come to decisions through consent.

Consent means that you aren't saying no and that a decision is at least good enough for now rather than saying that you're for it.

Feedback is gathered to improve the solution at different points for the people affected by a decision.

This is an alternative to majority rule direct democracy that can leave out a lot of nuance from decision making and offers a structured approach to proposing and iterating on ideas.
