Yup, petrochemicals are used almost everywhere in our daily lives. A large amount of global oil & gas production goes into manufacturing petroleum distillates and chemicals, rather than being burned as fuel. Petrochemicals are central to our lives because they are used as materials, not just energy.

US Steel took bail-out money from Harper in 2009, and quickly broke the terms of the deal. Canada needs to recover funds taken in bad faith. This should also include Stellantis Windsor/Brampton, GM Ingersol/Oshawa, Honda Alliston, and Ford Oakville for promising EV’s and delivering smoggy F250’s.

Fuel taxes don't even come close to paying for construction & maintenance of vast networks of stroads & highways, parking and other massive infrastructure needed to support private car ownership. Fact is, we all pay to support the privileges of a few, even those of us who don't own or drive a car.

The gas tax contributes only a fraction of the cost to construct & maintain provincial highways. Nova Scotia spends hundreds of millions more on provincial transportation & infrastructure than the province collects in fuel taxes. The shortfall is covered by other taxes and federal transfer payments.
