Despite the hurdles, I loved every part of getting to work with these artists to decide what our MC should look like. What I love about the Jester is that we made him just plain enough blend him with the crowd, but looks can be deceiving.

He was simply too Akechi-like. As a result? It made the Protagonist look younger than intended. It was a bit of a pain in the ass, but we went back to the drawing board and ended up with our final sprite made by our dear sprite artist, Wander.

Next up, is our other resident character artist, Carissa. We asked them to translate over Victor's work to a more defined version in which we would use for reveal trailers/VA cards. They did quite the amazing work, and with another character we will reveal further down the line :)

Finally, we came across an artist (Wander) who was able to replicate the P3R artstyle. His work is by far some of the most professional I've seen, and I'm glad to have him on the team.

We move onto our next artist, Al, who ended up making our first promotional piece to kind of test the waters for what would be to come. Still one of my favorite pieces that came out of them (besides his Metaverse attire).

Our next artist, Victor, would go about getting multiple designs of our Jester Protagonist in an action pose. Given his character, it made more sense for him to be a bit more reserved and sensible in the real world but more vicious and tactical in the Metaverse.

We started from the base: making him from scratch. There were ideas on how we wanted him to look, but our main artist at the time (Page) ended with a result that looked quite good.

You overdesign and end up with Protagonist designs like Yugi, where the character is so extraordinarily different that it's hard NOT to pick them out of a crowd, and then you have characters like Kirito from SAO, who looks so regular that you could easily mistake him for most other anime MCs.
