Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I think this is the best image I've seen with this stock: all the colors are on display with some nice smooth gradients between them in areas. Makes it feel more "real." 110

Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Successful expression isn't necessarily artistic, that's just being intelligible. An artist is the generative agent of a creative act that expresses. No amount of input from a non-generative participant entitles them to creative credit, that belongs to the intelligence that actually made the image. 100
Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Kind of a double fumble since the fireweed seems to me more subject than accent. My fumbling aside, it's a great image and I think fireweed is cool, haha. 110
Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I meant "always"! Man, fumbled the keyboard on that one. I feel like there are half a dozen places I have to disable auto-correct on my phone. 110
Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Calling AI a tool while offloading the generative burden to it and crediting the work to the prompter is only possible due to AI's lack of personhood. With a human, that's criminal. Equating a prompter to a director of a collaborative work is, again, just lowering the bar to create false parity. 110
Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Because it attempts to muddy the waters. Gen AI is Gen AI. Regardless of how much interaction one has via interface, the AI is the creative agent. A commissioner may have long or short conversation with the artist, but it doesn't change who the agent of the piece is. 100
Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Sure, lower the bar enough and anything is a "skill". Lowering the bar doesn't make a better argument, though. Instead, it attempts to elevate a simple rote task, writing a phrase for an AI, to an artistic/creative one. This doesn't follow any more than a commissioner taking credit for a piece. 100
Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 30/09/2026The question is one of creative provenance, not whether a thing was done or produced. Asking someone or something to do something for you isn't a skill, it's rudimentary language and it certainly doesn't qualify as a creative act. Credit belongs to the creative agent, the doer, not the requester. 110
Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I believe there is a functional difference between dodging, burning, or manual retouching/modification and generative add/remove: the former entails an artist continuing to use their skill and faculties to realize their vision, the latter is asking software to solve the artistic conundrum for you. 110
Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I never understood the appeal of generative add/remove. It seems to take away all the appeal of photography as an art practiced out in the world. The world is the way it is when you make an image and we choose how we work with that. If we're just going to AI it away, why bother going out to shoot? 311

Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 23/09/2026It's only marginally related, but your predicament instantly reminded me of the Twilight Zone episode, "Time Enough At Last." Reading enthusiast survives the apocalypse and is finally able to do all the reading he could ever dream of, but immediately busts his glasses. The stuff of real nightmares. 000
Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I was really surprised how well the deep blue tones and halation accented the waterscape concept. Azure seems cleaner to me, though some people say it has narrower dynamic range. DR aside, I think Azure will do whatever this is doing, but better given its--to me--more pleasing color balance. 110

Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Thanks, Pete! I redscaled a few rolls last year and never got around to the project. Seeing you killing the game with Azure made me pull them out of the freezer. Prob mess around with what I have left of the stock and then use what I learn on some Azure--which I think has better colors, overall. 120

Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 18/09/2026True that. Prob why I never snagged a roll of old Aerochrome. It's days are just too long passed. I don't think there is any level of preservation that will have anything remaining out there making images like the ones we remember. Glad we still got some few more years of 400H bangers, though. 111
Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I'm not a painter, but I used to draw and ran into the same issue larger pieces. Honestly, I run into it with photos as well. End of year, I print enough to fill a couple albums, all 4x6 or 8x10, but for as much as I want to print more, I can't justify it. 040
Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Great shot and that cyan layer in the 400H really adds that last little bit to make the colors sing. Feel any pressure with 400H in the camera or just enjoying it while you have it? 110

Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Because the subject's color are distinct from the background, I actually think it works a bit better, it's easier to parse, in color. 110
Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Hard to do a reflection shot that catches the eye these days, but you nailed it. Colors and their gradient kill, too. Nice shot, Gav. 110

Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 08/09/2026I've wanted a PROGRAF for years, but can't justify it, plus I do all my prints at the end of the year-not a printer maintenance friendly approach. I've used Graphic Communications in Oly, with great results, but they use FTP to receive files, which I'm not crazy about. Nations Photo Lab is good too. 101

Travis Croy @tcroy.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Not me. I can't think of another place in the frame to put it, that doesn't make it look worse. The bulk of the subject is where it needs to be compositionally and the edge isn't cutting anything off. Works for me. Still interesting to think about. 130
