When I was the school librarian at a preK-8 Catholic school, all the Harry Potter books really were on borrowed time. A new parish priest came in right after I left, and all things Harry Potter went into the dumpster. 🤷‍♀️

A cartoon that srsly messed me up? The Return of the King. I was out of the room when Gollum bit off Frodo's finger. My brother, shell-shocked, told me what happened. Five-yr-old me did NOT understand, and I didn't sleep that night--couldn't stop crying. Today? I still sleep with my hands covered.

When I taught high school inside the DC Beltway, a video circulated of a girl being gang raped at a local house party while kids stood watching and laughing. Co-workers told me, "If you watch it, you'll recognize the faces." NO THANK YOU. *barf* Result?! No arrests, no charges, nothing. 😳

*nod* I struggle with this bc I felt so powerless when I was raped and subsequently abused by a college boyfriend from 1993-94. I believe he was already a serial rapist. I didn't stop him. How many more women have suffered?! 💔

They primed me for the abusive partners I had when I was young by making violations of my autonomy routine and completely normal. That, and you know, the actual abuse. The last time my dad hit me with a belt I was 13 or 14. He didn't do it often but often enough. The threat was there.

Now, as in like this week, my folks are badgering me into selling our classic car--which we just finally got back from the specialist who undid a bunch of fuckery other ppl had done to it. Because they cajole my brothers when they spend money? When they take expensive vacations? Un..no.

We moved away from where we'd been when I was 12, and I got invited back from my bf's bat mitzvah the following winter. I had a lovely navy dress with little pearl beads along the collar. It was very formal. I adored it. But what shoes did she insist on buying for me to wear with it?!

An aside: In retrospect, I was clearly on the spectrum. Of course, I was born in the '70s when people didn't generally know "autistic" but they def knew "weird." Healthy social relationships weren't really something I learned to do. Just sayin.'
