And sure. To many of you this pic is just a wine cork on a table. But to us, it’s an invitation to have a long conversation and connect. And idk. At the end of the day, maybe that’s the point of it all, anyway. anywaywine.com

To laugh anyway. To dance anyway. To gather anyway. To share a bottle of wine and cook a meal with people you love anyway. These aren’t frivolous pursuits. They’re the foundation of what it means to be human.

When people are productivity-maxxing, and shaming desire and joy, choosing to slow down, anyway, is a small act of rebellion.

What is “Anyway?” It’s our wine brand, yes. But it’s also a familiar friend that carries us forward through both our conversations and our struggles. To do something “anyway” is not a casual endeavor, but a persistently hopeful one.

For the past few years, we've had the privilege of selling grapes to some of the area's most renowned winemakers. We're still doing that, but making our own great wine has always been the goal. Now, I'm excited to share: this cork, on a table.

“Oh you totally have time to work out!Just wake up before the baby wakes up” Okay before which wake up? The 12am? 2am? 4am? Or 6am? Inquiring minds want to know.

Yep! And lots of wines ARE priced pretty high to account for the handpicking process - be it for quality reasons or the terrain being super steep, and not-tractor-friendly. It’s truly a labor of love and why I (biased) think wine deserves the romanticism it gets lol.

Anyway, if you ever want to experience the magic of harvest, most of these wineries are super down for volunteers. It’s a lot of work, but there’s nothing more satisfying than knowing your hand literally went into producing a specific vintage of wine. Don’t let the robots take that from you too.

Many wineries and wine brands (like mine) still harvest by hand so they can be discerning, checking cluster by cluster. Or so they can get unique woody, savory flavors from the stems that you lose when you machine harvest the ‘Oops All Berrie’ version of winegrapes.

But I’m tired of people pretending the human labor is no longer needed. You need those Boston Dynamic humanoid bots to get close to the dexterity needed to preserve the delicate skins and rinds of fruit and vegetables. Maybe one day a farm can purchase a fleet of hundreds of those. But it ain’t now.

When people talk about autonomous ag, there are very real benefits. For an industrial farm that supplies nationwide grocery chains, there are THOUSANDS of acres that need plowing, spraying, and trimming. A human doesn’t have to listen to 6 hours of the All-In podcast bored in a tractor cab.

If you thought “oh how dainty a shake” - my sweet summer child… it shakes the living hell out of them. Here is a closeup. You’re not getting grape bunches out of this. You’re getting a bin of individual of whole and smashed grape berries (great for wine, bad for a kitchen table)

Therese Fessenden @tbfess.bsky.social · 27/04/2026
“But surely, some grapes are harvested mechanically? What about apples?” Yes, we hand and machine harvest grapes at our vineyard. A grape harvester works the almost the same way as an apple harvester… or an angry child: it shakes the plants really hard until the fruit comes off.

Grapes. Tomatoes. Broccoli. Cabbage. Pumpkins. Watermelon. A human walked through a field, examined them for defects, sliced them off their stems or vines, and placed them lovingly into a bin or a trailer.

It’s time for me to offer a lesson in ag engineering, for all those uninformed. . Currently, all fruit and vegetables that you can buy from the grocery store are hand harvested. Every. Single. One.

Jk that's just a wild conspiracy theory.... ... or is it?

Therese Fessenden @tbfess.bsky.social · 28/01/2026
Tbh it's getting to the point that I'm legitimately wondering, is this subterfuge? Am I being unconsciously primed to celebrate or normalize being silent and compliant?? Is this repetitively being drummed into me like it's a virtue to be extolled???

*shrug* Or maybe it's just me. But I can tell you that word gives me the ick now, so, thanks AI companies.

I get that it's a simpler word choice than "privately" or "subtle" or "stoic." But come on. It's getting old, generic, and pretentious.

Therese Fessenden @tbfess.bsky.social · 28/01/2026
... or, it's used as as a way to indicate some sort of underlying principle, modesty, or deeper sense of being that requires introspection to notice. "Workers quietly handling the work of their peers while their headcounts get slashed" "The quiet commitment to self-improvement"

Or otherwise, it's about some sort of clandestine activity that people are trying to pretend isn't happening. "The quiet exploitation of millions of people"

The latest AI tell for me? "quietly" (or "quiet") It drives me bonkers. I'm starting to see it everywhere, all the time. Usually, I see it used as a way to indicate a subtle shift from one reality to another. "People are quietly adjusting their schedules" or "Expectations are quietly shifting."

AI developers have long made it clear that their entire focus is on supporting "use cases" (arbitrary tasks they wish you'd do) and they spare no attention on abuse cases or misuse cases.

Oh cool. Thanks Cayuga County for the REDUCED RATE on parking for the jury duty I am legally required to serve at a rate of $40 per day under threat of jail time and/or $1,000 fine. Glad you could muster the discount 😒
A portion of a jury summons for Cayuga County which reads “For reduced rate parking at the municipal garage present your proof of service, section E of this summons to garage staff”

It's one thing to be an individualist bucking conformity. It's another to have complete disregard for the lives you disrupt and people you mock.

So... what does this mean for NG & military members? Officers have legal protection to disobey orders that violate the Constitution. Your subordinates are counting on you to know when it does. Do what you will with this information.

The unfortunate legal loop hole that the fed government is using is that the forces are protecting "federal property and personnel." Since protesters are attempting to de-arrest - this legal loop hole is operating under the guise that citizens are attacking federal buildings & "officers" (🧊 agents)

Therese Fessenden @tbfess.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Speaking of jurisdiction: Gov Gavin Newsome has gone on the record that the NG was activated by the federal government, not by the California governor. This would only be allowed in a declared state of emergency which the state of California has *not* declared. (see the CA Governor office's twitter)

Therese Fessenden @tbfess.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
This isn't even broaching the broader conversation of Posse Comitatus, which explicitly prohibits the involvement of federal forces in the policing of US citizens. This is why the US has state and county law enforcement - because this is the jurisdiction of lower-level governments, not federal.

The Oath of Office explicitly omits this second clause about obeying orders, empowering them to defy orders that prohibit the ability to protect the Constitution:

Therese Fessenden @tbfess.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
A few important notes: Part 1 is focused on the support and defense is of the CONSTITUTION. Not of any particular administration. And yes, Part 2 focuses on compliance with orders. ... HOWEVER.

🧵 Re: activation of the NG and Marines in Cali - Lots of uninformed ppl keep citing the Oath of Enlistment as proof that soldiers need to follow orders of the current administration. But y'all are missing important facts about how our gov & military are designed in a specific way to avoid tyranny.

The irony of using that song is they are also trying to revoke birthright citizenship so that it won't be enough to be "Born in the USA."

Usually complains about online censorship are overblown. Then there are exceptions, such as the proposed "abortion bounty hunter" bill (HB5510) that would basically - declare abortion information "verboten" 😒 - mark anybody who shares it as a target 😱 - reward random people to hunt them legally 🤯
