Today was a dark day for the western world, but it was an even darker day for Americans. The far right here and across the pond are exploiting the needs of the working classes for political gain. They promise simple solutions to complex problems.

🚨 NEW: Co-operative Parliamentarians have written to Chancellor Rachel Reeves MP to formally thank her for her support of the co-operative sector. We work with The Labour Party to share the co-operative movement’s priorities and, now in Government, we’re delivering a fairer and stronger economy.
Dear Chancellor,
We write as Members of the Co-operative Parliamentary Group to formally thank you for the support you have shown to the co-operative sector, both through the formation of a Mutuals and Co-operatives Business Council, and in instructing regulators to report on the current landscape of the sector.
The steps you have taken both in the Budget and recent Mansion House speech are a significant step forward in delivering on our manifesto promise to double the size of the co-operative and mutual sector.
The co-operative model was pioneered in the UK and exported around the world, yet the size and strength of our sector today lags behind many of our international neighbours. The sector has been crying out for an active government, willing to give it the support and development it needs to thrive.
We are incredibly proud that this Labour government has recognised the huge potential for coops and mutuals to drive growth. Co-operative business models are proven to be more resilient, more long-lasting and more equitable than other types of businesses. Owned by members, these businesses are often rooted in their communities, keeping profits local and boosting the local and regional economic growth we need to fix the foundations of our economy.
With support from government, and crucially from regulators, the co-operative and mutual sector could be central to this Labour government's growth mission, delivering inclusive growth for all our communities.
We believe we have a generational opportunity to grow the co-operative sector and recognise its value and potential. We look forward to continuing to work with you, your department and the government to realise this ambition.

Kemi may want Kier to resign over a petition (which is such a ridiculous political position to put herself in because it’s idiocy) however she herself said that you can’t overturn democracy based on a petition (one which may I say got nearly 3x this one)! #Hypocrite
