Taylor Silva @taydev.net · 05/05/2026Good luck on your OSS journey! I love the site. Sorry you don't have "OSS maintainer burnout" on your 2026 bingo card 😅🫠 040 4
Taylor Silva @taydev.net · 05/05/2026Technical steps: 1. Install and setup the GitHub CLI (hope you're familiar with the terminal 🤞) 2. Run: "gh pr checkout PR-NUMBER". Run that in a local copy of your repository. It'll check out that users PR for you locally. 3. Make your changes and put it in a new commit. 4. Do a normal "git push" 130 3
Taylor Silva @taydev.net · 05/05/2026GitHub usually allows you to modify PRs that users submit to you. I'll usually comment what I don't like or want to change, and then locally modify the PR and push the change. This way the user still gets credit for the submission. 120 2
Taylor Silva @taydev.net · 05/05/2026Yeah that's always tough, but the answer is COMMUNICATE! Leave a comment explaining what you don't want and why. Something new OSS maintainers usually forget is that there's a cost to maintaining the code. More code = more maintenance cost long-term. Saying no to parts or all of a PR is fine. 120 2
Taylor Silva @taydev.net · 05/05/2026They never do lol I usually ask the submitter to rebase their PR and resolve the conflicts. I've never tried doing it using the GitHub UI. Asking LLM's to resolve merge conflicts also works REALLY well. 140 4

Taylor Silva @taydev.net · 05/05/2026Been thinking the same thing. Haven't had time to play around with something myself though. Task containers feel perfect for agentic workflows, already forcing users to minimize what they give the AI. 120 2
