The pressure really starts piling on when you realize in just a little more than two weeks you're gonna be a PhD student. I wanna throw up. 😅

Sometimes I have imposter syndrome when it comes to researching history, but then I remember I'm not supposed to know everything.

I've been charged by too many dogs, by myself and with my dog. I am tired of always keeping my hand on my bag in case I need to defend myself from a dog trying to kill mine. If you know your dog doesnt have solid recall USE A LEASH.

WHAT DOES THORIN MEAN HES NEVER BEEN SO WRONG UNTIL BILBO SAVED HIS LIFE?! Hes been wrong like five time already!

Rewatching the hobbit, first time since I was a kid, what is with this dude King Thorin? He listens to no advice, they say hes a great leader but all of his decisions have led them straight into almost being eaten. Why are you still following this dude?!

This is a question for all the historian preservationists and curators, hypothetically if we unearthed an organic artifact that was rare, held valuable information, was already damaged, and discovered to have some viral disease attached to it at the smallpox level, what is the protocol?

Being a mixed latina is entertaining, gringos are impressed when I say anything in spanish while my latina family looks on in astonishment that I was able to say anything at all. I'm still not fluent... but the gringos don't need to know that.

How do you fully explain the depth of yearning to go home to a place that doesn't exist because your own country is turning on you?

I find great amusement from knowing my family tree is made up of a bunch of people and cultures from the 1600s who were constantly at odds, talk about slow burn romance, enemies to lovers. Mine was generational it seems.

I love #history, and finding the voices forgotten or lost in time. Historical research is learning life lessons over thousands of years. It teaches us human nature, how to prepare, what bravery, kindness, endurance, and tyranny look like. Our ancestors showed us how to progress. Just listen.

I visited italy years ago, as a teen, & cried. I grew up studying Greek and Roman mythology & history, I loved the subject. My expectations of the cities were grander than the reality that time moves on & sometimes instead of preserving heritage people pave over it to keep up with change.

Don't you love as a historian when you're asked by family or friends for a tour of a location you actually researched, you quote a source and all of the sudden you see the light die in their eyes? Yeah me too...

Ari Williams @tawizzle.bsky.social · 03/08/2026

Ive sent a few requests to modern history professors to supervise my proposed thesis. Two from one university haven't answered me, BUT I got a letter of endorsement from the very first Dr. I messaged at another uni. Im really hopeful, I've heard getting a supervisor is half the battle.

Im livid, my dog is family. My boy saw urgent care yesterday and had to go to emergency vet last night 3hrs waiting the Dr says "he may not wake up tomorrow, but I cant do anything". I watched my boy all night, then we went to another er who actually took care of him. Why is he allowed to practice!

Being the history nerd I am I decided to take on a project... I have little sewing skills other than repairing things, and I decided for my very first sewing project I would make an (as accurate as I can get) English colonial dress, the whole thing... the shift to the buttpad- every piece...

Im kinda irrationally scared of wasps, and I'm proud of myself today for facing that fear to save a sand wasp (Microbembex monodonta) that was drowning. They're not agressive, they hunt flies to feed their larvae, and they're pretty. Much preferred to the red paper wasps that chase me off my porch.

I love bugs, but the more I learn about them, the more hesitant I am to touch any that I don't recognize. This is a blister beetle! If you have a pet and they like eating bugs this is one you need to watch out for. Its in the name- and it can damage kidneys.

Blister beetle on a doorframe the striping on the elytra can be confused for a lightning bug.

Decided to stare out the window with my dog. I get it, the pond out there is quite the spectacle with all the little birds living around it.

I've been trying to capture a picture of this bug for a few days suspecting it was a tiger beetle. Nailed it. Pretty sure he's an Eastern Red-Bellied Tiger beetle. Photo isnt the best, I caught him with my phone camera while slowly creeping towards him. Little dude is fast and paranoid! #bugsky

I've recently developed a small obsession with tiger beetles, I had a minute of wondering which she was. Shes perfectly emerald with some texture on her elytra. Stopped her from drowning so she groomed herself till she was comfortable. She's a Virginia Metallic Tiger Beetle! #bugsky

One thing that I suspect is now going to happen is that universities will realise how many academics have been self-funding research when less of it starts to appear.

Saved two of these bad boys from the pool! Its a Carolina metallic tiger beetle. Its species is a symbol of determination and the ability to overcome any obstacle. Thats why I used it in the book I'm writing and I'm happy to see such a rare sight in the daytime. #Bugsofbluesky

Embark, I love #arcraiders, the vibes are great but the rats are driving people insane. All I am asking for is a pvp button that you can toggle off to join a friendly server. No one takes damage from other raiders, just us against arc, let everyone be a team against the ai like it used to be.

Ari Williams @tawizzle.bsky.social · 19/01/2026

I love arc raiders, what I love is having a peaceful existence with fellow humans fighting arc. Its wonderful how the community comes together to build an exciting place where we can work to fight a common enemy. To those people who like griefing friendlies and peacefuls, youre toxic. #arcraiders
