In a forest, a malnourished woman is sitting with her back against a gryphon while another woman offers her a cup of water.#LesFicFri "GLANCE"

The dragon was asleep when she returned, the sun glistening on his feathers, adding iridescent blues and greens to the fiery red. It was incredibly beautiful. She found Eftena was now curled up on the ground huddling against Stupid’s body but in the shade because he had put his wing over her.

He was very far from stupid.

She glanced at the dragon, was it going to stay around? Would the two of them get on? Any fight would be one-sided, the dragon must be three or four times Stupid’s weight, and had a mouth large enough to bite his head off in one go.

Miralees didn’t want to wake Eftena but she needed water.

She shook her arm and the woman opened her eyes, looking into Mira’s. And she smiled. It was barely even a ghost of a smile but it was there.

After getting her into a sitting position, Miralees helped her drink the water. It had warmed up a little so was less of a shock. She chewed the dried meat and fed it to Eftena. For the first time Eftena watched the process carefully but did not seem to mind that it had been in Mira’s mouth first.

#LesFicFri "HAPPY" Well, nobody is exactly happy - but this is the first time Veronica has stood up to the Housekeeper. From THE TASTE OF VERONICA by Stephanie Bull (a pen-name of Steve Turnbull), from Book 2 of VERONICA'S LIFE
#LesFicFri "HAPPY"

“Since we have Mademoiselle Vionnet staying until Sunday, we must provide an evening’s entertainment tonight. I have invited Lady Katherine, and she will be coming with her youngest daughters.”

“Lady Katherine?”

“Well, she is going to be my mother-in-law,” said Veronica. “And also Signora Martaci.”

Mrs Jenkins did not look happy.

“Is there a problem with that, Mrs Jenkins?”

“Since you ask, Miss Clifford-Hughes, that woman is an artist and a _foreigner_.”

“I am well aware, and she is bringing Mrs Cooper of Inglewood Manor.”

“I suppose that’s better.”

Veronica frowned. “I do not require your approval, Mrs Jenkins, my only concern is that the meal will be appropriate for my guests. Can Cook deal with this on such short notice?”

She stands in harsh sunlight against a background of brick buildings and rusting pipework.

Image of Maliha Anderson inspired by my Maliha Anderson series. We're in a dark church, light streams in "god-rays" through a stained-glass window above the altar. It highlights two women kissing from behind so they are almost silhouettes. They are close to the camera and we see them from the bust upwards.

The taller one, whose name is Veronica, has a wedding veil hanging from her dark hair (in an updo) and golden circlet of leaves in her hair. She's wearing an intricately decorated gold-coloured halter-neck dress with a great deal of skin exposed. She has a silver armlet on her right arm. Her back seems strangely curved, this is because she has Kyphosis.

The shorter woman, named Polly, is much slimmer. She is wearing a similar dress but in silver. Her blonde hair hangs down her back in a complex plait, but she too has a circlet on her head. It can't be seen in this shot but she has a similar circlet on her right arm.

There's a young woman in a blue nightie, with dyed ginger hair, looking into a mirror thoughtfully. She's leaning on a dresser covered in make-up while holding a pencil pressed against her nose.

She's looking, in the mirror, at a second young woman with copper-red hair wearing a knitted top and black panties but apparently nothing else. She's leaning against a window frame looking down into a pink mug. Perhaps she's about to take a drink.

#SeptemberWorldbuilders 15. Ocean? My book "Dragon of Water" (Dragons of the Wounded Land #3) takes place largely on a sailing ship crossing an ocean. In this snippet the MC, Miralees, is having a meal with the crew before they sail. 🧵➡️ #reading #sapphic #romantasy #3dRender #noAI #humanMade
“Oh yes,” said the first mate. “There can be rain, and considerable quantities of it. Wind too, can’t do without it, but if it’s too strong we have to take down most of the sail.
“There was that blow that went through three or four ten-days ago. Never seen anything like it. Be glad if we don’t come across something like that again.”
Miralees realised he must be talking about the storm that hit Gormarentin—yet that was hundreds of leagues inland.
“Were you at sea?”
“Just as well we were, if we’d been in harbour the Light’d been smashed to pieces. But that storm churned up the seas for a hundred leagues about. Ocean swell taller than the mast, we had to bring down every length of sail lest the masts be ripped from the decks—all except the spritsail—”
“That’s a sail at the bow,” said the lad.
“—all right, Kelin, who’s telling this tale? If we had no sail at all we wouldn’t have been able to steer and the ship would have rolled eventually. But with just that sail we were making speed like we were fair flying.
“The Light proved herself that day. She strained and groaned but she stayed together and carried us from harm.”
“That said,” the captain put in. “We had to lay-to at an island for a five-day even then wait longer until the storm had passed enough for us to go around it.”
“Like the eyes of the deep were angry with the above world,” said the mate.A woman and a man having a conversation on a ship in the ocean. She has her hand on her hip in annoyance and her hand outstretched as if explaining something. The man who might be the captain has one hand across his stomach and the other to his face.

I have lots of other characters but we'll stop with Chloe - a near future apocalyptic world that pretends not to be ("it's fine"). The world is filled with random mutations of people (hence the title MONSTERS). But some, like Chloe, are not random - and she's growing bat wings.
A dark warehouse of some sort. There are two people lit by a red light that might be a fire.

On the right is a young woman, she seems to be only covering herself with a blanket.

Her bare back is exposed, and she doesn't look very happy. Her eyes are closed and her lips pursed as the second person examines small bat-like wings coming from her back.

The second person is a man probably over 50 with a huge bushy beard and long dirty hair, he wears a big heavy overcoat.

He has one hand on her bare shoulder and is touching one of the wings.A naked woman, shown from behind and virtually a silhouette, stands looking away from the viewer. She has bat wings so wide they go off the sides. Above her is the bio-hazard symbol and on the horizon is a derelict city.

Eftena raised an eyebrow.

“Why are you being awkward?”

The anger emanating from the goddess did not require the ability to perceive magic to be a very physical force.

“But—”

Eftena stamped her foot. Pointed at herself and then the building.

“Mistress, we are being observed. Internal dissent does not aid our bargaining position.”

“Not everything is a trade, Yelantera!”

Miralees regretted shouting the moment the words were out of her mouth.

Never argue in front of the audience.

She sighed. “Very well, Effie, but I am not happy about it.”

She turned to Copper. “Take Stupid up on top of the building. We’re going inside for a while. Wait for us and be ready to come if we call.”

#QueerPrompts Sept 6: Books? In my erotic novel "The Shape of Veronica", the title character's favourite book is "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" by Anne Brontë. Veronica is very innocent at the start, but she knows there's something special about Helen's rebellion against her abusive husband. #noAI

We're in a Victorian looking room, there's a window showing it's daylight and a lawn leading to trees.

There are two young women, standing up is a maid while sitting beside her is her mistress who is only wearing a nightie.

They are holding hands. And the maid is looking kindly at her mistress and smiling. Her mistress is looking straight out of the image at you, leaning forward on the chair as if she is explaining something.

Surprisingly the maid has her hand resting on her mistress's shoulder.

Her mistress is looking up at the maid with a horrified look on her face, hand over her mouth as if she cannot believe what the maid is doing or saying.

#QueerCharChat 4. Green flags Polly: I'll answer this one, Nika's too nice. Veronica: Thank you. P: See? Nika is very polite, kind and sweet. She wouldn't say boo to a goose. The Steward and Housekeeper treat her very badly, and she just accepts it as if it's deserved which it isn't. 🧵>

We're in some part of a building with Victorian wall paper and dark-stained wood.

A man, perhaps in his 60s, balding and dressed very precisely, stands with his back to a door. He's tall and looks like he'd have to stoop to get through the doors.

A young woman in a peach dress leans against him, her head against his chest, her head down and eyes almost closed. She might be crying.

The man has hands on her shoulders as if he's comforting her, there is a gentle smile on his face.

A scene from "The Shape of Veronica".“I have spent many years serving this household, miss. I have heard and seen many things. Some I would have preferred not to. I take my duties seriously and do not betray the trust I have been given even though it may pain me.”

“When I am married your duty will be to me?”

“My duty has always been to you, miss.”

“Even though I am what I am?”

He smiled a sad and gentle smile. “You may be a hunchback, miss, but I am—as you pointed out—very tall. Excessively tall. Before my tenth birthday I exceeded the height of my father. I am as unnatural as you are. I am a giant.”

Veronica had something in her heart that wanted to break free. Yet there were no words that would let it go. Instead she took five paces forward and threw her arms around the butler.

Her heart pounded and felt as if it would explode. She cried again and sobbed into his chest though she was not sure whether she was crying for herself or for Emlyn Jones.

I haven't resolved all the ins and outs of it yet (ahem) but in my stories the merfolk are shape-shifted humans but most don't know and wouldn't change back if they could - drying out is not sufficient. I really need to sort out the reproduction details at some point. #3dRender #noAI #humanMade
We are close-up on two women, the one on the left with wet-looking long hair has her hand cupped around the neck of the other and is kissing her on the nose.

The woman on the right has her long hair in a high ponytail and is holding the other woman by the forearm as she is being kissed.

It's a misty night. We're looking up to a broken gap in an overpass, a man stands on the edge looking down, his car beside him with headlights on and a lone yellow streetlight behind him

There's a woman, or is it a cat, who's clearly jumped from that high point perhaps escaping from her pursuer, who cannot follow.

#QueerPrompts 30. Beach Day Depends on the characters. Harriet and Khuwelsa like skinny-dipping (in private) but to be clear, they aren't a couple, they're sisters. Miralees and Eftena are similar, and they are a couple. #3dRender #noAI #madeWithDaz #3dArt #sapphic #wlw #humanMade

Jeanne Paquin? Even Veronica had heard of her, but Mrs Jenkins would not be stopped. “But surely such an eminent designer would not wish to work on _her_.”

“You mean her deformed back?”

Veronica frowned; she did not like being discussed as if she were not present.

“Yes, of course, that’s what I mean,” hissed Mrs Jenkins.

“I believe that if Lady Katherine requests a wedding dress for her daughter-in-law to be, Madame Paquin will be happy to supply it.” He took a deep breath. “I do not believe that decision is part of your remit.”

Veronica was having trouble concentrating. Polly would become her Lady’s maid proper, she was to have a dress designed by Jeanne Paquin—perhaps—and she would remain living here. It was like a beautiful dream.

Mrs Jenkins was now leaning forward, her face twisted and her voice getting even quieter. “Her parents do not allow her to leave the house.”

“She has been sold to Lord Jameson,” said Mr Slack. “They no longer have any say in the matter.”

A young woman stands on the edge of a pool in the woods. She has her arms raised and is surrounded by curious light.

Behind her are flowers. Lots of flowers.

This is the goddess Eftena (originally named Taleyja).

Yes, I thought of that one too 😎 I *have* written about it. It's the core of my near-future SF, post-apoc, dystopian, police procedural, cyberpunk-y, superhero-ish, coming-of-age book: MONSTERS. Available everywhere (ebook, print and audiobook): books2read.com/monsters-s1
A naked woman, shown from behind and virtually a silhouette, stands looking away from the viewer. She has bat wings so wide they go off the sides. Above her is the bio-hazard symbol and on the horizon is a derelict city.

Apart from the title in the top middle, the text reads Steve Turnbull, USA Today Bestselling Author at the top, Rise of the Kymiera volume 1 below the main title.
