CIRA already verifies Canadians for the web. Why not for #BlueSky too? It's time to get #Canadians #verified — not bots, not brands. Real people. Real 🇨🇦 identity. Let’s #bluecheck everyday Canadians. 🔵🍁 ✅ Done the steps above? 👆 🔁 Repost this thread and help get 10,000 Canadians verified. 🍁🇨🇦💪

🇨🇦 Canadians deserve real verification on Bluesky. In #Canada, CIRA (Canadian Internet Registration Authority) already verifies: 📍 Canadian residency 🪪 Government-issued ID 🌐 Ownership of a .ca domain That’s trust — not a pay-for-play checkmark. Let’s get everyday Canadians verified on Bluesky.👇

I already did a month ago, when the first announcement was made. I also sent them physical mail and called them. The email and letter I sent them mentioned the benefits like increased trust and presence of .ca domains as good selling points. Email from April:
Email I tauheed-elahee.ca sent to CIRA.

Thank you for contacting CIRA. Your email has been received, and you will receive a response within two business days. The details of your enquiry are included below for your reference.

Reference number: 00676001
Subject: [EXT] Bluesky Verification and Blue Checkmark
Details: Hello CIRA,

Sorry about the last email, this time I'm sending it from the email address associated with my CIRA account.

I would like to have CIRA verify it's members on Bluesky. My understanding is that CIRA members have provide ID on sign up. So we already have a verification model in place. I would like to showcase this verification on Bluesky not only with a .ca domain but with the recognizable "blue checkmark". Since Bluesky will show the verifier, who will be @cira.ca, it will add to the internet presence of CIRA and strengthen the Canadian brand. This will allow the "blue checkmark" to be given to regular Canadians, an objection of the current system.

Currently Bluesky is not accepting applications for trusted verifiers, but @cira.ca can still make verification records. When CIRA applies and is accepted to be a trusted verifier all the verification records created by @cira.ca will then be shown on Bluesky as "blue checkmarks". My current understanding is derived from this exchange with @cred.blue, a person who made a tool to easily create verification records, (link: https://bsky.app/profile/tauheed-elahee.ca/post/3lnibfc3xrc2h)

I would like your feedback on this and the likelihood of CIRA to pursue this.

Hello @kimberlybrown.bsky.social , A quick suggestion. If you get a domain you can have your artstation, bluesky and discord usernames be the same. A mockup of what it might look like: The lines and circles show what links where. Blue is for bsky, green for artstation and purple for Discord
Two browser windows side by side with a mock username of @kimberlybrown.art used for artstation gallery website, bluesky handle/username and discord username. This allows the artist Kimberly Brown to use the same identity everywhere.

Screenshot of my CIRA (Canadian Internet Registration Authority) member account. I have verified myself with Government I.D. Only Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residence can have .ca domains. I have verified ownership and owner identity of the domain I use as my handle. Blue check please.

Just joined the wait list for @gandersocial.bsky.social (gandersocial.ca) It's great to see a Canadian social media app being built that will be interoperable with the rest of the open web. Looking forward to using it. #Canada

I was referring to the new verification system on AT Proto/BSky implementing a verified blue checkmark system. Info: bsky.social/about/blog/0... cred.blue has many tools, one is a tool to make verification records. If you become a trusted verifier, you can give blue checkmarks to BSky accounts.

A follow up on the discussion under @cira.ca's post about verification (bsky.app/profile/cira...) I made a mock up of what I'd like @cira.ca members to have on bsky. Considering @cira.ca membership costs nothing but requires ID to become a member, we already are verified by them Comments welcome:

Looks like the banner image was cropped when I uploaded the image. Alt text is used to describe the design. The banner image in full is attached to this reply. Sorry to the artists. I closed my DMs when I created the account to avoid bots DMing me. Just reply to the post and will DM you afterward.
Current banner image. Generated from AI as a reference for artists I'd like to commission to use.

Main elements. My website URL `tauheed-elahee.ca` in white in the middle. In the bottom are the Parliament Building from Ottawa and the Trillium flower from Ontario. In the sky are maple leafs in the breeze for Canada, and a unit circle and a cosine wave for trigonometry and Electrical Engineering, my discipline and represents my tech career.

I asked ChatGPT 'Show me a man whose safe word is "fiscal conservatism".' This is the result: ChatGPT also said "there's a clear resemblance. Both depict a middle-aged man in a suit ... So, yes, the joke aligns well" Full conversation shared here: chatgpt.com/share/67db82...
I asked ChatGPT 'Show me a man whose safe word is "fiscal conservatism".'

The result is a middle aged white man wearing a grey suit and glasses. In a stereotypical banker home office. Sitting on a leather arm chair, in front of a book shelf. A lit lamp can be seen on your left.

Of course it's to liberate, it's written on the flag when they tried to interfere in Canada's affairs last time. Source: www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/c... Bottom of page
The Upper Canada Reformist flag.

The lower half is actually white with the word LIBERTY in red. The combination of the three colors - red, white and blue - is taken from the flags of USA and France because the Reformists' cause was inspired by the American and French revolutions. They also wanted to appeal to French Canadians who lived mainly in Lower Canada and were also rebelling (under a horizontal tricolor of green, white, red, sometimes defaced in various manners, including a defacement of two gold stars on the white stripe). The upper half is blue with two white stars, representing the "republics" of Upper and Lower Canada (they were actually colonies, since the rebellions were crushed).

In this country, we franchise Tim Hortons(TM).🇨🇦🦫
A meme of the format "Tony Saparanos 'In this House...'" with top text "Support Canadian Franchisors" and bottom text "In this country we franchise tim hortans (tm).🇨🇦🦫".

Meme format of "Tony Saparanos 'In this House...'" is a scene set in a hallway to a living room. A man that looks like in his late 40s, wearing a white tank top, white robe, and a metal chain, in the foreground on the left side with head facing to his left to the right side of the screen. His left arm is extended and figure pointing to a person that is not seen in the meme off screen.

@mystoragebench.bsky.social 's point can easily be disproven by uploading a screenshot of the change handle page: Settings > Account > Handle If the page is different, there's a problem. Laura already posted a screenshot of the email requesting I.D. so this can be done. Mine for comparison:
The Change Handle page in Settings found by going Settings > Account > Handle

The "I have my own domain" is highlighted to show it is available as an option and is clickable. The page in "Change Handle" with "I have my own domain" selected showing page to change handle to one's own domain.

The domain field has been populated with "tauheed-elahee.ca", the author's handle.
