What if the best architecture isn't the most scalable, flexible, or future-proof one? 🤔 @tastapod.com argues for building the Best Simple System for Now—and avoiding the trap of solving problems you don't have yet. Watch: youtu.be/u4Cv65F9DcY?...

Apparently counting and swearing are the last things to go non-mother tongue (if at all). Dreaming happens pretty early, and bilingual dreaming is common. Fun fact: Japanese kids count differently with their fingers, in a way that means you can count to 10 on one hand (so up to 100 on two hands).

I'm calling this 'Adjacent Engineering': things that are not on your mainline that would not otherwise get done because a) you have to learn some tech or domain just for that one time, or b) it is just too much of a time sink and opportunity cost. I describe it as 'wider rather than faster'.

What if you think of your LLM as a proxy crowd-sourcer playing Family Fortunes? It makes a _lot_ more sense. You ask: > How can I get this image to sit in the middle of the page as I scroll? Claude's training data says: > We asked 100 web developers how they would centre an image...

There was a wonderful period of about 30 years between 'We will only ever need five or six computers' and 'We will only ever need five or six computers' that has been most of my working life. I hope with the shift to local AI models and the resurgence of on-prem, we get some of that back again.

Haha! Apple Calendar has the opposite problem. I can't type 'Pacific' into the time zone. I have to know a town that is a) in the Pacific time zone region and b) in their list of towns they know. Bonus, as soon as I find one, it then just sets 'Pacific Time' in the time zone field. Genius™
